Is invoice price good?

My 4R

Went and looked at a few 2011's today (SR5 4X4 Gray and Silver)........ kinda bouncy ride but enjoyed the drive. Looks like it would be at invoice price of 33100 from MSRP of 35369 . Is this about the right pricing for out west?

You would need to post full stats for the vehicle in order to get a straight answer. Options add up quick.

I bought a 2010 TE last July here in the People's Republik of Democraticfornia, I paid 35,700 plus TTL on a sticker of near 40K as e example.

With the TE's being a paid in the ass to get I think you can do better for a SR5.

Bilsteins will fix that.

I'll probably get criticized for this, but I don't put any stock in "invoice", simply because it's too easy for the dealer to mess with. Telling you it's "invoice" means absolutely nothing. Even showing you the real invoice does not reveal their true cost. And their margin is totally up to them.

The only constant is msrp, which of course is falsely elevated by the mfgr. My personal rule of thumb is (msrp) - (transp. cost) - (10%). This should put you in the $31,200 neighborhood. Remember, NO dealer HAS to come down to ANY price. Getting there is up to your negotiating skills and determination. A trade in is not your friend. It is true that the very end of the month can be your friend, so start a few weeks before that and just hold out, making sure they know you're serious. The Finance Manager is NOT your friend, he's one of the highest paid employees at a dealer.

:iagree:

A better way to look at it is, if you know people in your area who recently purchased. Sometimes the exact vehicle just costs more to buy in your area or it's not as discounted as much.

Finance Mangers make upwards of 6-figs, definitely does not have your interest.

Spend $40 and find out...

Do it. It will be the best $40 you'll ever spend before buying a car.

* Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with FightingChance.com. Just a very satisfied customer. You'll know more about buying a car and the particular model that you're interested in than pretty much any salesman out there.

I also recommend a read through http://www.carbuyingtips.com. I don't entirely subscribe to his method for making an offer on the car or for submitting requests for quotes through the car buying sites. I got better responses from dealers following the advice from FightingChance when it came to buying.

Perception is reality. If you think you got a good price, then you did. If you do not feel it is a good price then it is not. Perception trumps all facts. :thumb3:

i saw on the news that obama wants to replace some guy as the new econ adviser or something. And that guy is pushing a national 5% sales tax. Better hurry and by this car asap!

also, is this ride 4x4?

It is a 4X4. All the $ amounts for the base model and options installed are itemized as retail, dealer and invoice prices. I double checked the numbers and they all seem to match. Big reason they aren't giving out deep discounts is that many of the dealerships around here don't have many. Every dealer I looked at has 5-6 total. Qty 2 are always trail and one limited, only a couple SR5's per dealer.

Anyways, thanks for the information guys. Still poking around if I want to make the move from my Tacoma, but hoping something works out.

This really should be your least worry. Go to edmunds.com and get the invoice numbers.

Falsely inflated? C'mon, that makes zero sense.

vehicles and have NEVER seen this.

Terrible advice.

Getting there is up to your negotiating skills and determination.

It is actually pretty easy.

A trade in is not your friend.

True. Negotiate trade after terms for vehicle have been set.

It is true that the very end of the month can be your friend, so start a few weeks before that and just hold out, making sure they know you're serious.

Meh. Kinda true but one of the worst ways to try to get a great deal. Really old school thinking.

The Finance Manager is NOT your friend, he's one of the highest paid employees at a dealer.

Yeap. Don't buy anything in the finance office. Gap insurance, window etching, etc etc. Seriously, decline EVERYthing.

If you want an easy and proven way to nego for a new car, do this:

email/call the internet guy/gal an ask him for $1500 below invoice. Call a handful of local dealers. Tell them that you are ready to buy now (this has to be true because you dont want to be an ahole — remember he is a person too).

I've purchased over a dozen vehicles including a 5g4R in SoCal. Save yourself the headache of the advice from others; go to edmunds, get the numbers and make the call. You're welcome.

Agree, EXCEPT one thing. I got the extended warranty with the COSTCO discount 50% off. For $1,125 my T4R has better than manufacturer warranty to 125K miles. I drive a ton, unusually go through initial warranty in one year. Can't beat that price and peace of mind with all that technology. I typically would never buy, but price/coverage was to good. Otherwise, I agree with the above statement.

You did it the correct way.

BTW, I was not saying that everything the finance guy/gal
peddle isn't worthwhile, they just inflate the cost 2-5x. Everything the finance person sells can be purchased much cheaper outside of that office.

Might have found a salsa red SR5 at $700 below invoice. That is the best price so far in searching. No sunroof but not really sure I need the convenience package.

If the MRSP for a TE is around 38k with all the stealership fees included, what would be a reasonable OTD price for this SUV. I'm looking at trading my M3 for a 4runner. They have a SR5 on the lot that I really like with black leather 4wd but for some reason the TE just looks so much better. The SR5 has a MSRP of 36.5k. I asked the dealer if there is any incentives for Sept and was told no. This is the end of the model year as I see a lot of '12 Highlander on the lot. Will there be incentives for the 4runner say Oct?

OTD is hard to determine due to state-to-state variances in taxes and title. Go to cars.com or truecar.com to see how the vehicle you're buying compares to others in your area.

The only time there was cash on the hood of the 4Runner was right after the recalls and only in certain states. WV has never had an incentive on the 5G 4Runner.

A local dealer here has an incentive on TE right now. Nothing from Toyota, but they have 4 on the lot special priced for 35K at one specific dealership. Like I posted earlier, I have been getting quotes for Invoice. Example, MSRP35369 Invoice is 33108. You can build the vehicle with all the options on your 36.6K vehicle and get the invoice pricing. Tax Title and license "fees" will be dealership specific. Very very rough estimate, you will probably be around $1500 above MSRP when you are done if you can start at invoice on the vehicle.
