Is it a possible mod?

Hey guys just curious if anyone knows if it's possible to turn the clicking noise off of on the blinkers. For some reason it drives my dog nuts when they are on. And not very safe to not use then at all so that's not an option. Thanks!

It's probably soldered onto the instrument cluster somewhere. If you are comfortable pulling the panel and unsoldering components, it should be easy.

On a different vehicle I was trouble shooting an electrical problem and had to read a bunch of schematics. In my readings, I found that the blinkers (turn signal) noise was from a relay. They do sell replacement relays and some are 'quiet'. I suspect the 4runner is of similar design/noise source, but I haven't seen the schematics. Of course now you'll be the guy that forgets to turn the signal off, but better than a rabid dog.

Modifying your dog's behaviour is probably the easier route here. Record the sound and play it back somewhere other than in the truck. Calm your dog and give him treats when he's mellow. Then take the dog to the truck in the driveway and turn on the hazards and give treats when the dog is calm. Won't happen overnight, but you won't have to modify every vehicle you take the dog in.

Solid State

Not having seen the circuit, I assume the clicking noise is the flasher relay. One would think you could find a solid state electronic flasher and wire it in place of the relay.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll have to start looking into the flasher relays. Don't think the modifying dog behaviour would work. She is a high driven 9 year-old German shepherd that still acts like she is three. But worth a shot if all else fails
