Is it good time to buy a 4RUNNER now?

I was planning to buy a 4runner a few months ago. And then, there comes the toyota issues.

Though 4runner is not in the recall list, but as someone implied the problem may still be existing on ECU for all models.

If I buy a new 4runner now, will toyota fix any software issue in the computer? Is toyota planning to install brake-override system for 4runner in the near future?

Could you guys please give some advices, thanks.

Take what you hear in the media with a grain of salt. All manufacturers have recalls. There have been plenty of debate threads about all of this and I don't want to get too far into that.

My advice is if you want a 4Runner, get one. If this recall gets expanded to the 4Runner, you'll be taken care of in that.

I wouldn't worry if I were you, I'm certainly not.

Or you can wait for an '11 4Runner. Jim Lentz (in the Congressional hearings) says all but one or two Toyota models will have the brake override in the '11 model year.

I bought a used 06 in January, and I couldn't be happier with it. I am not worried about any software problems, because I know how to control my vehicles (including a 91 miata and a 98 Honda sportbike). I unfortunately missed the current 'Toyota price depression' due to the current witch hunt of the entire company, but if you are in the market now, do it. If they offered me a software patch to disable the throttle when the brakes are applied, I would refuse it. This is more evidence of weak people needing to be saved from the dangerous devices they don't know how to control. If you are capable of handling a typical machine, go for it.

I don't know of any manufacturer that would not run an ECU software update if they had a fix to a known problem.

I just bought an '06. Could not be happier. If I get a 5th gen it will be in a couple of years when I can pick one up with 40k miles for <25k.

Its always a great time to buy a 4runner! If you get a 3rd gen, it will be cheaper and they are the best ones anyways! then you dont have to worry about any recalls!!

:iagree: SUA has made me aware of what my Toyotas don't have and how to react should it happen. I'm not worried, cause :happens:. If it does, I'm at the wrong place at the wrong time... my number's up.

I think waiting awhile might be best, but not for the reason of having a re-call for the 4Runner. I have no magic ball, but gas is going up and is predicted to hit $3 + this summer. The 4Runner is still new and there are good deals, but I think they might get better. I think this Toyota mess, will get bigger, not just float away and it will make Toyota look pretty bad. It looks like the economy is still slow. So, I think by this summer there will be rebates on the 4Runner and pretty good deals to go along with it. But, like I said, I have no magic ball and I could be totally wrong. :shrug: So take my advise with a grain of salt.
