Is It Possible To Get Rid Of The JBL System?

I want to upgrade my headunit, add in front/rear component speakers, and a subwoofer but unfortunately I have the JBL system in my 03 4Runner. :bash:

Is possible to power my front and rear speakers with an amp and have a separate amp for the subwoofer?

Do they have to rewire the whole sytem? Strip the truck and start from scratch pretty much?

I've been doing a lot of reading but I am rather confused, do I have to buy the Metra Toyota harness designed for the JBL systems or buy the regular harness for the SR5 4Runner?

I'm not sure now if its even worth it upgrading everything now after my research. Worse case scenario, I just upgrade my headunit, buy the Metra harness designed for the JBL systems, upgrade the speakers and buy the Soundgate Line Out Converter, add in my amp/sub and call it a day.

I think its best to remove the entire system. Based on feedback I've read of people using adapters to connect an aftermarket h/u to the JBL amp the sound quality was not improved by much.

Can't it just be simple as not using the JBL amp, add in my headunit , amps and not worry about the JBL system? What wire harness would I be buying for the aftmarket headunit though? :S

Or

Since I'm not using the JBL amp, the RCA cables from the amps will be controlling my door speakers and sub correct? So JBL amp won't be in use at all right?

I've got my aftermarket Pioneer headunit with JBL Synthesis without any issues and have all speakers amp and sub working fine.
