Is it possible?

I want to move the stock exhaust pipe point to the side instead of the rear (from factory). I like to drive with the rear window down. Hopefully, move it to the side will reduce carbon monoxide while driving with the rear window down. Has anyone here done it yet?
In addition, I want to move the whole exhaust up couple inches due to body lift.

Not only is a side exit possible I highly recommend it:bigok: and it helps tremendously with the smell. With regard to smell: Is it perfect? No. Is it really good? Yes.

Is it possible to route the pipe without cutting the resinator? I don't like loud sound of the muffler.

if u put the bend at the end of the resonator, it would look kinda strange & sort of defeat the function of having it exit out the side.

If you have the V6 you won't notice a thing, I promise! I notice a tiny bit more growl (FJCruiserish but quieter) between 0-10mph. After that no difference. If riding next to a barrier or building with the window down on the passenger side you MAY notice a slight sound as the pipe is a side exit vs rear exit and blowing right at the wall/barrier. There's nothing about a loud exhaust on my DD that I like. My V6 without the resonator is not loud. My old Titan had a stock exhaust. It had a beefy, good V8 growl to most people. I had to put a resonator tip to quiet it down a bit, that's how much of an old fart I am!:lmao: (I offer the Titan reference because I think you were at the Titan message boards about the time I was and you know what I mean )

If you go for the tailpipe mod stick with the stock pipe diameter. A big, cool looking pipe will resonate a bit and will make some noise.

Not only that it'll make the angle of departure even worse than it is from the factory:bash:

Thanks Chris. You have great memory. I had to install the resonator at the tip to quiet down my Titan too. I will look at the muffler shop to get this done.

I highly recommend doing this mod as well. It almost completely eliminated the rotten egg smell inside during w.o.t. I know the 4runner still has this smell because I was driving behind my wife today on a steep hill on the freeway and I could smell it like crazy in my truck. I don't think it is any louder than stock. Plus I think it just looks better.

I've been thinking of cutting the resonator off and doing the side exit mod too but what supports the exhaust beyond the axle. If you cut the resonator off you'll lose the last support hanger don't you?
