Is it possible to put a dial style climate control unit from a sr5 into a Limited? I was just thinking if it would work then that would pretty much eliminate any worries of the digital one tearing up on me. I plan on keeping my 4runner until it dies so I really don't care which controller I have... Thanks guys!!!

I finally found some info on this topic and see that it's extremely difficult to do what I asked about. I'll just get my unit rebuilt or buy a rebuilt one. I got a good laugh today... I called the dealership and a new unit is $1066... HAHAHAHA damn.........

I think you will fine, but since I have never done it, I won't say it will 100% OK, maybe just 99%.

I remember even up to last year on Ebay these things went for less than $50. I guess inflation can creep up anywhere nowadays.

Are you sure that it'll be ok to drive without the unit physically there?

I have done it in other cars, without any CEL or the like coming on, but in retrospect those were all OB -I computer controlled cars.

Take it out. Start the 4runner. If it acts funny or something similar, then put it back in and then earmark some time when the 4runner can sit idle until you can get it sent off and fixed.

thanks man yeah I gotta do something about it... auto function works fine heating and cooling but the damn a/c stays on ALL the time and only about 20% of the time I can get the system to cut off via the "off" button. I have to mash it so hard it feels like my thumb is breaking...

Honestly, going from the SR5 to the Limited would be a HUGE PITA, but it seems like going the other way wouldn't be nearly as bad.

You'd still need to replace the servos with manual diverters. The parts cost would be cheaper, but I bet the labor is worse, as retrofitting manual cables has to be worse than ripping them out and running wires. One positive would be the return you could get for the operable servos on e-Bay. I'd still classify it as HUGE PITA, just a less expensive one.

Thanks for the replies.... I'm going to have Welcome To Auto ECU Inc. to rebuild mine for $150. Seems that will be the cheapest fix and still be all factory inside. They warranty their work and hopefully this will be the only time I have to mess with it. I'm still wondering if driving the truck without the unit hooked up will mess anything up?
