Is my CV on the way out?

This photo shows some recent grease that has shown up on my CV axle...

Is this a bad sign? Should I replace my CV axle soon?

I still have a torn boot on the other side that is still spitting a lot of grease...

looks like the metal clamp is missing and its leaking grease. You can probably just re-boot the cv's.

Shoot, you're right, I didn't even notice that clamp was gone...

Sounds like I'll be rebooting both sides...

Can any mechanic shop reboot my CV's or should I find some particular shop?

I live in a rural area so there is not a whole lot of specialization here.

Gotta disagree about the reboot... Doesn't look like there's been enough of an opening for dirt/dust/water to enter the boot.

I'd say clean the grease/dirt off the end of the boot, throw a standard hose clamp on that mofo and check it a month down the road.

I'd agree with this. The problems come when you get a bunch of dirt inside the boot as well as losing the grease. You probably haven't lost much grease. Throw a new clamp up there and you'll be good to go. Your cv's will tell you when they need replacing.
