Well today me and the wife and baby went on a little family sunday drive. We went to oregon inlet {beach} to actually use the 4wheel drive. I have cycled the 4wd system a few times and done a little all wheel driving with no problems. Runner shifts easy in and out and works well. So, before I got in the sand I put in it 4hi and locked the center diff., put it in 2nd gear drove on to the beach about 200 yds at about 10 mph just looking around and the tide was high so we had to turn around. I had no problem using reverse to turn around and get off the beach. Well when I got to the ramp to exit the beach, still in 4hi with the diff locked I heard some strange noise that almost sounde like the vsc kicking in which I thought shouldnt happen with the diff locked. I let off the throttle for a second then continued off the beach. I turned off the diff lock, put it back in 2wd and tried to go in reverse just to be sure I was in 2wd and had NOTHING. So I put her back in drive and drove over to the parking lot and noticed it would not shift out of first gear and had a slight whinning noise. I climbed under the truck, all wires seem to be connected and in good condition and i could put my hand on the tranny and hold it there so it wasnt too hot on the pan or on the housing. I looked for a tranny dipstick and couldnt find it. I Had it towed home to prevent anymore damage if any. When I got home I started the runner with the same results. all the 4wheel drive lights and actuators are working but all i have is first gear. Also It still hasnt triggered a sensor to get an idiot light to come on {a/t trans temp}. So the truck is telling me nothing at the controls but clearly I have a problem. So, Is there a failsafe on the tranny that may cause this? I would apreciate any info ya'll can provide abot my proble or possible warrinty coverage. I have just over 40000 miles. Thanks everyone.
