This is interesting, especially considering the problems with the Tacoma frames. I just got a Toyota Certified Used, and was reading over the materials and it was VERY specific that rust/corrosion/disintegration of the body and frame isn't covered. I would guess it depends on the situation though.
I think they are trying to avoid covering rust from people who aren't taking care of their vehicles and living in the salt road states. If it is appearing on every vehicle for no apparent reason due to subpar materials or design, then it should be covered (such as the issue mentioned above where there's a TSB), and the situation with the Tacomas falling apart.
This isn't a new situation though which is why it sort of concerns me. The old 4Runners and pickups rotted around the fenders, as did the old Cruisers, and then the Tacomas. It just seems to be a Toyota thing. I wonder how angry people would get if they started making their trucks with carbon fiber body panels. :lol:
