Is the hood Air Deflector a good addition?

Is this soomething that will be worthwhile for me to add to m 4R?

Will it help deflect rocks from the windshield?

Really, I doubt the bug deflectors are that effective. I think they look great though, and they are relatively inexpensive as well.

I've got one that I received as a present and I can tell you I don't think it was worth the money she paid for it. It definitely does nothing for stopping or deflecting rocks from the windshield as I've already had to replace my windshield once. It will probably keep the chips off the front edge of the hood but nothing more.

Invest in something else like a bull bar !!!

The only rocks you'll deflect are the one that would have hit the front of the hood. Rocks have too much mass to be moved by the airstream changes the defector creates.

They really should be considered as bug deflectors.

I have the Toyota one and while it looks good and keeps the windshield a *tiny* bit cleaner, it doesn't really function well. I'm still getting chips on my hood and almost had a huge rock smash into my windshield, but luckily it hit the wiper arm. Maybe it helped, who knows.

I had a bug deflector on my T-100 and I thought it did a good job plus it does keep the hood from getting chipped.

I have one made by Vent Shade and it definitely helps keep the paint from chipping on the hood, but that's about all I can say it does. If you have a problem with paint chips on the hood, then I would say it is worth it.

I have one on my '90 and I like it. The longer I have it, the more I think this style really does work.

It does protect from rocks (tho I got a small stone stuck under it and had to pry it out), you just have to be sure to clean it regularly. It may still make your paint in that spot look different after it has been on for a while. There are products out there that just stick on and give similar protection, clear vinyl sheets and such. I like the looks of my deflector tho.


As far as driving behind semis and dump trucks: I was riding with a fridn when a grapefruit sized rock came out from between the duals on a dump truck...smashed through the windsheild! Pretty nasty! Glad it was not my rig!
