I have a 93 4runner, v6, auto, 4wd. I had the tranny rebuilt about 1000 miles ago and recently it started to slip. Just prior to it starting to slip the speedometer will start to race back and forth from zero to 90 and back then the tranny looses traction. I can shift down into low and it will work, and if I stop and turn off the vehicle it will generally start to work fine. It has happened about a half dozen times and the time between episodes has no real pattern. The speedometer has been acting up for some time, goes out completley then starts again. When it is working the cruise will work but if the speedometer stops the cruise stops as well.
It just sounds like some kind of computer generated mess as apposed to a simple slipping transmission. If it is slipping shouldn't it slip all the time. One last thing, this has all happened when it was very hot out, high 90's. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.:awais:
