Is there a difference between a Pioneer HU and a Premier HU?

the Pioneer DEH-P7700MP and Pioneer Premier DEH-P770MP look exactly the same and seem to have the same specs... except the Premier unit has a 2 yr warranty. Is that the only difference?

I was trying to compare the two when I was shopping for a new unit a few months ago. I could see a big enough difference to justify the higher price.

What units are you looking at?

That and the slight price difference. It's like Honda and Acura, Toyota and Lexus. Essentially the same cars or trucks at the factory just different badges and prices.

Hi, I am brand new to the site as I just picked up my 03' V8 4wd Limited on Friday. It just so happens that I work for Pioneer Electronics here in Canada. The biggest difference is the higher voltage outputs on the RCA's. 4V DEHp770 vs 2V on the DEHP7700mp. This helps keep the noise floor down on the system and a little more oomph if you're running a sub.

Hi iForce, you posted the specs of the DEHP760MP/7600MP, not the brand new DEHP770/7700mp that was originally discussed. You're right, both those old one's were only 2V. The brand new DEHP770/7700MP are just arriving in stores right now and the 770MP does feature 4V while the DEHP7700Mp is just 2V. Other than that and the 2 year warranty, both decks are exactly the same. Same transport, same speaker level power output, laser everything. It would be much more expensive if we had to completely change a platform to offer Premier decks. Where Premier really differs is in the amps and subs where we have completely different offerings in the higher end products.

Hi there! Thanks a lot for the info. That clears it up for me. So, since you've probably seen the premier radio, what do you think about it? I'm in the market for a new HU, and I'm just trying to figure out what to get...

Pioneer thinks the DEHP770/7700MP will be the hottest models in the line up this year, so ya, I'd go for it. Since the price difference isn't that big between the 2, I'd go for the DEHP770MP for the 4V output.

Take it for what it's worth: Pioneer customer service sucks. I had 2 head units by then, had problems with both, and it took them A LONG time to contact them and have them own up to the problems (under warranty) and even longer to fix them. I went to my local dealer - and good friend - and tried to see if they could expedite the process and I was told that "they do indeed suck" and that the bullshit that I was getting from Pioneer was normal for them. I won't buy another.

Alpine customer service is EXCELLENT, based on experience I had with a defective item even PAST it's warranty.... shipped me out a new item no questions asked. I will buy them again in a heartbeat.
