Is there a way to disable the ABS only?

I realize there r other threads but they all focus on disabling traction control and abs...I hate abs with a passion in the winter, it is the worst, it causes more problems than making things better. I tried pulling the fuse but that seems to disable ABS, traction control, and VSC...i dont want to do that, i only want abs off. Is there a way to do it?

Once you disable ABS you disable all the other systems because they require ABS to function.

VSC & TRAC utilize the ABS hardware to work. Disabling ABS flags the vehicle's network and as a safety measure VSC & TRAC are disabled.

I don't know of anyone who has managed to bypass the system in such a away that ABS is disabled and VSC & TRAC are preserved, nor do I see a reason why you would need to in the first place. If you're having trouble with the system engaging during the winter, your best bet will be to disable the entire system and trust your driving skills.

I find the ABS on the 4runner to be very good. Are you sure you're using it correctly??? Or driving too aggressively???

I have had a few times where i am going up a hill and vsc engages and causes me to lose momentum...this is bad if I am trying to pick up speed... also its caused me to go sideways up a hill... i can say with certainty it would not have happened if the vsc wasn't thinking I was trying to point it off a cliff! hahaha:wtf:

thats hilarious! I have the same problem going up my DRIVEWAY. What my neighbors must think! :shocked:

its hard to get your head around why Toyota though sideways was the best approach for hills.... HAHAHA:tongue1:

Lock the center diff and vsc will be disabled. Don't do this on a solid surface, obviously, but for slippery stuff it works well.

The center diff can be locked and unlocked on the fly pretty quickly. If I'm in the snow and am about to go up a slippery slope I just press the button to engage, then press it again when I've made it up.

Okay so I may be missing something here and I dont mean to hijack. I am not a huge fan of VSC unless I am traveling with the kids on snowy roads (which seems like every day). I've been looking into that one mod that will allow me to disable VSC when I am in 2wd so I can have a little fun in the snow and mud. If I just pull the fuse on the abs before I go have "fun" will this just disable abs, vsc and atrac?

I did this last night. I only pulled the ABS MTR fuse out of the box under the hood. worked for 15 seconds and the worst warning tone ensued. it was cold, so i just popped the fuse back in and things went back to normal. those 15 seconds were great!!

Sounds like a fun 15 seconds! I'm jealous. I've had a little fun in 4x4 with the center diff locked so it would disable vsc but it's just not the same. Looks like I will be doing that vsc turn off mod after all.

Posted this in another thread, but...

You can leave the gas cap loose and start the truck. This will throw some dash lights but will disable vsc, etc.

OR

You can unplug one of the skid control sensor/speed sensor wires on either the left or right side of the front end. The wires are quite accessible inside the engine bay. Again this will throw dash lights but also will disable vsc, abs, etc.

One of the members here has put together a nifty little device that takes most of the guesswork out doing the vsc off mod, but he lives in Russia I believe so it won't be a quick turn around if you need to do the mod asap.
