okay guys on a different subject, i'm putting on a 2.5 lift over my old stock shocks and coils.. and i want to put on 285/75/16 yokohama geolander a/ts tires. on yokohamas website, it says the tires measure 33.1. do you think i'll get enough lift to run those or will it rub badly? the rear doesn't appear to be sagging at all.

Has anyone ever done a 1UZ swap into a 3rd gen? You seem to be able to get those motors for between 500-1000 all day long.

Yes it will rub at full turn. Get new wheels with an offset of at least 35 if I remember right.

I had a fully rebuilt 1uz that was 1 week from going into my runner but then I had to sell my 4runner. I still have the motor but now it has twin turbos, new pistons, cams and injectors and is about a month away from going into my sc400

Seriously, everyone who owns a 3rd gen 4runner should no the electric fan swap. It will shock you how much of a difference it makes. That belt driven fan takes so much power away from that motor I'm honestly suprised that Toyota didn't use an electric fan as standard. The whole swap can be done for less than $50 if you do it yourself. Call me crazy but I swear my 4runner was quicker through 1st gear (pre FI) than my SC400

is there a write up for the electric fan swap?

darkrunner, i will be putting 8069s pro comps on with em and they are 4" bs. will that still rub?

If I can give you one bit of advice, it would be this: learn to be content with going slow.

I know it's hard, maybe impossible when you're still 17. When I was 17 I was trying to make my Dodge Neon fast. I spent way too much money on it, and yeah, I had fun making it mine....but the car never was actually fast, and if I could have that $6-$7K back.....boy oh boy.

I admit, I do still have a dodge neon to play with, and it is fast. But I'm content going slow in my 4Runner, because I know without spending 4 digit money, I'm not going to make it THAT much faster or more powerful. Better to make it reliable, and keep up on the maintenance. Just my .02. :hatsoff:

When I was 18, I bought a brand new Alfa Romeo Veloce Spider. It was a 1300 cc with twin Weber carb's. Dual overhead cams. 4 speed manual. And I used to go out on weekend nights and prowl for Corvettes on Mulholland Drive. :whip2: They were faster, but I usually won. It's the curves, ya know. Had all the speed I could use.

It truly was one of the most beautifully designed cars of the time.
