Is this a 2003 Sport? How do I tell?

Visually, how do you tell the difference between the SR5 and the Sport? I'm taking a look at this truck today (possible buy), and he claims it is a Sport. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like an SR5 to me. Look at the door trim. It says SR5 4WD. I am pretty positive that is an SR5, 03 model, without the appearance package you could get on the 03 giving the lower body color panels.

This is an SR5, NOT a Sport. It would say "Sport Edition" where the "SR5" badge is, among other differences.

wow, i wouldn't trust that guy. the rims, lack of hood scoop, and the glaring fact the it says 'SR5', not 'Sport Edition' on the door is a dead giveaway.

Thanks for the info. Looks like he is trying to con me as well as others. I spoke with him on the phone, with the same question, and he said with the body cladding makes it a Sport Edition.

where did he get those wheels from? anyways.....that's definately an sr5. no hood scoop and 4th. gen. 4runners are clearly marked "SR5", Sport Edition", or "Limited".

the body cladding means it's an early 2003 model, has nothing to do with 'SR5', 'Sport', or 'Limited' model. They discontinued the plastic cladding in middle of 2003.

This is Mark86's sport...notice the silver roof rack, bumper trim (option on SR5, standard on Sport), and the really obvious "Sport Edition" on the door panel. In 2003, color matched cladding was an option, but was never related to whether or not it is a Sport.

NO!! Don't fall for it. It is not a sport. Here are all the reasons:

1) The side view mirrors are black instead of color coded
2) The door handles are not silver like on the 2003 Sports
3) Black roof racks
4) The black license plate garnish
5) No hood scoop
6) It says SR5. Mine says Sport Edition on the driver and passenger door.
7) If your steering wheel doesn't have audio controls, that is another clue.

The rims look like an aftermarket addition. I don't remember seeing any rims like that standard on a 4Runner.

Those rims are on the Sequioa SR5.

Or tundra....I believe the 03 - 04 model tundras sr5 models had those rims too.

Also the last gen double cab Tacomas had those rims. The rims are probably stock, Toyota will add any rim they offer if you insist on it. A friend of mine had a 99 tacoma w/ a set of alloys I had never seen before, but they were stock Toyota rims.

Where is this truck located, and how is it possible that these pics are dated 4 months ago? Did the seller have it posted online i.e. autotrader cars.com ?

As a newbie, answering some of these questions will help the older members understand where your coming from. And perhaps as a Group Board event, we can prevent another would be "blind" buyer out from embarassment.
