Is this a camera or sensor?

Hello! I am looking at purchasing a 2023 4Runner. 3 salespeople at the dealership have given me different answers about what this sensor is. Does anyone know for sure if it for front sonar parking, a trail cam, a birds-eye camera or part of collision avoidance?

Hey! Based on what you described, that sensor is most likely part of the front collision avoidance / safety system rather than a parking sonar or camera. On the 2023 4Runner, Toyota typically uses radar-based sensors up front for things like pre-collision braking and adaptive cruise control. Front sonar parking sensors are usually smaller and closer to the bumper edge, and trail/bird’s-eye cameras are clearly visible as lens units. If you want 100% confirmation, you could ask the dealer to pull the exact part number and description from Toyota’s parts catalog — that’ll tell you exactly what it is. Good luck!

Dealers catch a lot of flack, as do salespeople, but to not know what something is? Really? OK, maybe there's so much stuff you can't know everything, but then cop to it and say IDK, but I'll find out. And do so if you want a sale. But to just stick their finger in their mouth and say IDK? Clearly they don't care about a sale.

My brother has a 2026 Lexus and the says it's part of the 360° view that the car gives you at low speeds or when you are stopped. View on the left is 360° from above and on the right is what ahead when in drive or what's behind when in reverse. Changes to map or other views above like 5MPH.
