Is this a good deal? Too many miles?

I'm looking for a 4runner and really wanted a black limited but prices are high. This would be a spare car and would only be driven 10k a year in so. cal.

I know I could get a lower mileage one for the same price but not a limited.

What maintenance questions should I ask? What should I expect to go wrong at this mileage? I want to ask the right questions before purchase?


2007 V8 Limited 126k mi got them down to $18k cash out the door! Looking to pull the trigger tonight or tomorrow morning.

Should I go lower miles and less options or does driving only 10k a year mean that I should be ok with a car that has high miles?

Honestly, if it was my cash, I would want lower miles.. Its a Yoda so it will probably go forever only putting 10k a year on it. Has the timing belt been changed? Oil change records? Clean car fax? Use common sense friend start with the basics and work forward.. Why do you think the dealer has the car? Was it a trade in because someone wanted lower miles? Or did it come from an auction in a different state? To many thing to list here. But if you like it and it feels right by all means get the rig it looks damn clean in the photos.. Have you checked the usual? Nadaguides.com, kbb.com, edmunds.com for the value of the runner for sale? Also, make sure you get a carfax and check maintenance records. For me personally, I wouldn't pay that much for a car with that many miles. The truck is newer so I'm sure those are highway miles so that's a plus. If it were me I'd keep looking....

It would be more miles than I would be interested in. Even though toyotas last longer things start to happen as the miles go up on any vehicle. At some point it will start to nickle and dime you to much. I would not pay that much for it, there are plenty of lower miles 4runner out there. It takes patience to find them though.

truck looks really clean. The third row seating seems great. But as the guy above mentioned, its not 4wd, not sure if thats important to you.

besides that it looks like a good deal. The V8s are a collectors item nowadays.

A few items that i think of the top of my head that should have already been done are : timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs.

here is another one I found in Stockton, CA. similar starting price, im sure you can get them to lower it, its got about 93k, so about 30,000 less miles but its a 06. and this one is 4wd

Just FYI, I pulled the Galves and black book; which are figures that follow what that vehicle is selling at auction. Dealers follow this bc it closley follows actual market cost to dealers at auto auction.

Trade in (this car was sold by a dealer at auction, who got it as a trade in and did no reconditioning. Expect a legit dealer to put some money into it to recondition. Tires. Brakes.. etc.)

So. The cali region is slightly higher than what I had galves set default to.


These are auction prices. So, since a dealer NEEDS to make a profit to stay in business, expect a 10-20 percent markup.
18k seems high. As always, the price is ALWAYS negotiable. Look for everything WRONG with the vehicle and use this to negotiate down. 126k miles. Kinda high (not really, but use it). Any scratch, check the brakes. If they will need to be replaced soon, tell them this.


Hope this helps. I didn't get your local or other car specifics. Things like sunroof adds 600 in market resale. As....your mileage may vary.


Edit: My personal opinion would be to go older with less miles. There are tons of 2004-2007 with less miles. I just bought a 2004 with 96k on it. Lower miles in my opinion trumps years, if it is really close. That said, use the mileage to your benefit.


ASK ABOUT THE TIMING BELT. If that cannot prove it has been done, then assume it has not and make them do it. At 126, you are 30k overdo for a belt change. Since the v8 is an interference engine, if the belt goes, your engine is toast. No matter what you negotiate the price to be, get the belt done. While they are in there, get the water pump, seals.. etc. that they can get while in there.

Bad deal, keep looking
there are prob a lot of maintenance items that need to be done including x-res and thats not cheap.

This may not be the best comparison but I paid 20k for my 06 v6 sr5 4x4 with 56k miles.

if the timing best was done there will be a sticker indicating the belt was replaced on the fan shroud.

I wouldn't do it. For a little bit more money you can get half the miles. Mine is base except for the 4wd and i don't mind a bit. If you really want the nicer stuff you can put it in aftermarket. Best stay away from spending money on repairs.
