Is this a load of crap?

There was one of the advertisements that appear on the bottom of the threads now that claimed to be a chip for the 4runner that gives you 60HP, increase your MPG by 4-7, and increase your co emmisions by 25-40%. I say that's a load of crap. Has anyone actually tried this. It's $69 "YOUR PRICE" with a MSRP of $399. I see a BS alert.

If this actually did 1/2 of what it said it did I would buy one in a heartbeat for $69. I want someone who has more money than sense to be the guinea pig for the rest of us. Who will volunteer?

It's BS. It modifies the IAT (intake air temp) sensor output that the ecu sees, forcing the ecu to inject less fuel into the engine. The problem is the O2 sensor can tell that there isn't enough fuel from the O2 content in the exhaust, and asks the ecu for more fuel, so it learns around the mod in short order, and alters the long term and short term fuel trim tables to compensate.

If they reset the ecu and do dyno runs, they may even be able to prove SOME of their claims (note the "up to" portion of the hp claim), but long term effects will be negligible.

If whatever that chip does actually gave 60hp, added 4-7 mpg, and lowered your emissions, toyota would have done it that way from the start. I'm pretty sure toyota did their homework when they designed their motors.

There are many products on the market that "claim" an increase in performance "up to 15 bolt on horse power." Well that is saying from 0 to 15 HP increase, or maybe just zero, or worst, less then zero.

"chipping" an engine will work, but you'll only see noticeable gains if you're boosted.

I actually have 4 of these chips installed on my 4runner. They added exactly 240 hp and 20 mpgs. My 4runner now has 430 hp and gets 44 mpgs.

Dude, that's sooo sick.

You can 'chip' or flash for increases on most ecus, but I wouldn't think much more than 5%.

not only do the chips add 60 hp each but you can download custom firmware for the chip off the internet. you then use your laptop to flash over the chips "stock" firmware, this is well known to possibly result in 75 hp gain.

And if you use 4 of them in tandem you get 4 x 75 hp!

And then if you want to go even further in awesomeness, you can overclock the chips by 15% which of course gives you an addional 15% hp + everything listed above.

MPG gains are phenomenal!

I put 10 of them on my 4runner and my MPG is now in the negative numbers - my 4runner actually produces gasoline as it drives down the road. So much so that I may have to install an auxiliary fuel tank to keep from spilling fuel onto the road as I drive.
