So I am trying to figure out if I will need wheel spacers with these new tacoma wheels I picked up. (pics below). the offset is -17. Now when I had my first 4runner, it came with the standard 2001 5 spoke steel wheels, with an offset of +15mm (please correct me if I am wrong with these numbers.)

So when I bought 285/75/16 tires for the 5 spoke steels, I had to buy 1.25" wheel spacers to keep from rubbing.

and looking at this offset comparison site (LINK) with 255/85/16 tires with the new tacoma -17mm wheels, it tells me that the inner sidewall is 47mm further away from suspension. (point B in the picture below)

if thats true, and the inner sidewall is in fact 47mm further away, I should have no rubbing, and no need to buy spacers for the front tires. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

these are the standard 5 spoke 4runner wheels. (+15mm offset as per this link.)

and these are the new wheels I want to put on (-17mm offset as per this link, and confirmed with other websites stating same.)

my buddy with the factory 5 star 'limited' wheels and 285/75/16 tires and a 3" lift has no wheel spacers. Slight rubbing at full flex offroad. Nothing that would necessitate such a wide spacer. Not sure why you needed such an aggressive spacer.

it was a long time ago when I had that other 4runner, I'm pretty sure it was 1.25". but I may be mistaken

IF that wheel is truly -15 offset, it should work. However. Being a steel wheel it is likely much narrower that the 7 inch wide alloy. That will not be a good wheel to run a 285 on. I'd be very surprised to see a Toyota OE wheel with that much, let alone any, negative offset.

I will be running 255 tires on the new steels wheels.

I have run the 285 tires on the 5 spoke alloys with no issue in the past.

I really doubt that any Tacoma wheel is -17 offset . When I bought my 4runner it had Tacoma TRD wheels and they were + 32 offset . Those taco steel wheels look like a + offset . -17 would look a little deep dished . BTW, 255's are a good choice and will work fine on a 8" wheel .

just measured the wheels I bought.

outer edge to outer edge is 8" (however the wheel is identified as 7" wide [inside lip to inside lip])

with a straight edge, I measured 5-1/4" down to the mounting surface of the wheel.

yielding 1.25" offset. (31.75mm) we'll call it +32mm

stock 16" alloy wheels on 4runner are 4 5/8" backspacing. (we'll call it +18mm offset

these tacoma wheels have 7/8" deeper backspacing. which sadly means rubbing will occur with the 255/85/16 tires :rockthrow:

Mount the wheel & tire on the truck. If you cant get your finger between the tire & UCA then you'll need the 1.25" spacer. All of the Toyota 6 lug wheels fit each other. Some have a small variance but tire size will also make a difference on how well it fits.
