Is this normal?

Right before I bought the car which was about 1200 miles ago they replaced the caliper supposedly... The other side doesn't look like this at all its totally normal.

Nothing about that looks legit...there's a lot of surface rust on that...it wasn't replaced with a new caliper.

It looked perfect when I bought it then slowly it has became rusted, I don't know if that's a sign its overheating or frozen?

Are you talking about the rust? If so they probably used a remanufactured caliper and it is not painted.

Yeah I guess it's just rusted. Before I bought it I took it to a mechanic and they caught the fact that it was a frozen caliper so the dealer replaced it. Now it looks like that. So probably just not coated and a reman from auto zone or something.

Take a wire brush to it to get the big/loose crap off of it then you can rattlecan it black. Will look much better!:thumb3:

I don't think the surface oxidation is automatically an indication of overheating or frozen calipers, maybe it was just cheaply refurbished? Just out of curiosity, are you absolutely positive both calipers looked pristine when you purchased the vehicle? I was just thinking wouldn't it be funny if you're looking at the non-replaced caliper and the other side is actually the new one

Yeah I'll definitely have to get some stem covers. Haha. So far since purchase they have had to replace the entire timing chain, tensioners, gears, and water pump. I've replaced a bearing, coolant flush, plugs, trans flush. Next on the list one of my rotors has some slight warping and some how one of the strut mounts on the front right has basically busted/broken. I didn't even know that was possible, when I hit a bump that side just rumbles around. I think I'm gonna let a pro handle that with the spring compressor and all. I don't know whether to go OEM for 76$ or AutoZone for 35$?

This all depends on how poor your aim is :lmao:

If I was to do it, I would probably unbolt the calipers and remove the pads so you can evenly spray around the entire caliper better. Tape off at the very least your rotors and the wheel well area directly next to and behind your calipers

Yes, normal, even for a recently replaced caliper. They get hot and rust a little bit after a month or so, give or take. As said before, paint it if you want and try to use caliper paint to withstand the heat.

I'll take your advice and just unbolt them and then tape off. I'd rather do that then get overspray every where. Thanks

The NAPA remans I'm running still look good with the black paint they use.
