Is this the A/C condenser drain?

Howdy everybody! Please excuse my lack of knowledge, as I have just bought my 4Runner about 2 weeks ago. I have a 1998 3.4L V6 5 Speed. I noticed after I drove my 4Runner yesterday, that I had a decent sized puddle of water underneath my 4Runner. I checked out the water pump and it was not leaking from there. I finally found that it was coming out of the black drain(?) on the passenger side of the firewall. One of my friends said he is pretty certain that it is condensation from the A/C. But I just wanted to check to make sure it was the A/C and not something more serious.

Looks like it to me. Passenger side coming through the firewall would be your a/c drain.

If it's a puddle to the left of your front passenger tire then it's probably your A/C drain.

You could check by driving it without the A/C then park it for 10 minutes to see it there is no puddle.

btw it's not your ac condenser but the ac evaporator.

He didn't say it was the condenser. He said it was condensation...which it most definitely is.

Looks like it... only thing that's different is that you don't have the metal elbow tube, mine has it but it seems flimsy so it could have just fallen out

positive, A/C drain. Mine is the same, without the metal extender (same as OP). You can use a thin rod to unblock it by there if it ever get blocked.

Without the metal tube, mine dripped directly on the sway bar link.
That's why I extended it down to the frame rail.

I know this is an old thread but just posting here for posterity. We noticed a few things today on our 2008 4R that caused concern: 1. The 4x4 indicator lights were flashing erratically (switch in 2H); 2. The right side of the dash made some strange noises when turning left; 3. The passenger floor was soaked. This was during a day of driving Gettysburg with AC running. After reading this thread I decided to just pull the AC drain hose off. That was (Sorta) a mistake. The water that had been building up in the AC unit all day then dumped all over the passenger floor. About a gallon of water. Discovered the 4x4 control computer was soaked from water that was seeping from the fan (funny noise) when we turned left. Explains the erratic indicator lights. Funny noise was water making its way into the fan motor.

Pushed a wire through the drain hose and pushed out a small clump. Fully clogged.

Drying things out now and hoping the 4x4 computer isn’t shot. Will know more in the morning after a fan runs on the carpet all night.

Long story short, if you have water on the floor of the passenger side it’s dead easy to check the AC drain hose. Pull it through the firewall (from inside, it’s behind the carpet) and pull it off the AC unit (under dash, center). Just be ready with a way to catch the water. I wasn’t.

When I was driving in the rain with the AC on my passenger informed me they had water drip on their foot. It wasn't a lot, just a few drips. I checked the grommets in the engine for leaks, and water wasn't near them. My 4runner doesn't have a sunroof.

The black box above where the passenger's feet would go was wet and cold. Is it normal for water to condense on the outside of this box like it does on a cold glass during a hot day?

It was extremely humid in the car when this occurred, and it hasn't happened since. Also the AC drain drips right onto the frame, what size tube do I need to relocate it?

It's common for me when the interior humidity is really high. Usually clears up after 10-15 minutes if I keep the windows up and recirculate on.

I'm pretty sure it is, my 96 3.4 5 speed has the same nipple drain thing and my dad told me it was the A/C drain. My truck also had a pool of water under it.
