Is TRD PRO worth the cash?

I was very fortunate to buy my 2016 TRD Pro on the last Saturday in January of 2015. I went round and round with the manager, but in the end, was able to split the difference between dealer invoice and sticker price....largely because they had two identical TRD Pros on the lot and he was desperate to move both of them by the end of the day to secure future allocation.

For me, the TRD Pro grill, hood scoop, and wheels make the truck. I know you can add those things later, but I have two other "project cars", I needed a daily driver that was where I wanted it right out the door. I am in the process of adding a few things like a roof rack and different running boards/sliders, but I love the look of the truck right off the lot.

arguments against TRD pro tend to be short sited and only focus on the purchase price.

TRD Pro retains 100% resale value over a year, sometimes two.

Any other 4runner mode depreciates at faster rates.

So, even if the TRD costs more, it is actually a financially sound decision to buy the more expensive truck.

Edit: unless you have an insane interest rate*

Just a general observation:

TRD PRO's are only worth the price that their owners paid for them...

It is true. Whatever car meets your needs be it a Pro, a Jeep, a Hummer or a Samurai. Get out and drive it, wax it or scratch it up but enjoy it.

My Runner has no KDSS and it has the rear locker so that met my specs. I've installed my RadFlo suspension and HQ sliders, under hood air compressor, second battery, Engel fridge, radios and more. Skid plates and roof rack soon! It is my 4Runner and I am enjoying the hell out of it.

Lately I am finding more dealers willing to sell a 2019 Pro for sticker price. Is the cool factor of these rigs waning? Still set on a 2019 Pro though as I have no desire to mod it from the way it arrives from factory.

Maybe it's partly due to the increasing popularity of 4Runners in general (not just the Pro). Sales of 4Runners is at an all-time high, I believe. With more sales comes increased competition among dealers, which tends to bring the price down. I just bought a 2019 TRDOR 4 weeks ago, and was watching inventories for a couple months prior to that. Here in Ohio, these vehicles were not spending much time on the dealer lots. As for me, I was able to internet-shop down to two local dealers offering the same-equipped Nautical Blue TRDOR for exactly the same OTD price. Two other dealers were offering to get one of those and have it delivered to their OWN store to sell it to me.

Another possibility - I think the Pro MSRP was increased by $3500 for 2019. If so, the MSRP is actually higher than a year ago. Perhaps Toyota saw that gap happening with people paying more than MSRP for a Pro and adjusted for it.

This is smart, that way you don't have to strip it back to stock to sell it then fire sale the add-on's.

This. The 2018 msrp is not the 2019 msrp, find another way to analyze the purchase justification. If it comes down to the desire for 1) sunroof 2) fox then that's okay too, because aside from the price increase those are the only changes.

Forgot to answer the original question. If it's worth it to you, then it's worth it. A 4Runner is a difficult vehicle to economically 'justify' for most of us, anyway. Drive and enjoy without regrets!

depends on the dealer, I had no issues, walked in and paid MSRP and drove off with it, they even had Cav Blue on the lot, unclaimed at the time. Other dealers in the area wanted another $5k on top

I got mine 3 months ago

Waited for what seemed like forever to get it. Stoked I waited on it. I paid sticker and the dealer threw a couple of extras. FYI. I had owned 4 Suburbans until the 4runner. I am really happy with it so far.

Which dealership was this? Im in the dfw area im looking for a cav blue.

Paid MSRP for my 18 Cavalry Blue back in April. Got them to throw in a few accessories and delivery as well. Herb Chambers in Auburn, MA.

I've been looking around for TRD Pros in the Pacific NW for about a year. Of the ~10 dealers I've been in contact with, 9 sell at MSRP. Seattle Toyota marks them up a bit. That was true for 2018 too.

Seems like a trend, more dealers selling at sticker. This is good news, especially as ‘19 sticker is about $3500. more than ‘18.

This is kinda good. Sucks the don't come down on the pro but I think this is one reason why they hold their value. I bought 2017 vette just a little before the 18s came out. Msrp was 82k they had it for 68k and i paid 72k OTD. I Thought it was a great deal but really was just bs. I had it only 6 months and has 342 miles on it got rid of it and thats a long story why traded it in and only could get 57k for it. So I guess when cars get a huge drop like this the value dosed hold.
