Is your 3rd gen... ugly?

Companies are going to fewer colors I am sure because it is so much cheaper than holding such varying inventory. They are not trying to make an awesome car, just one that will sell, and most people don't want a loud car.

Black, white, silver, grey, candy apple red, navy blue. That's probably 90% of vehicles out there.

I think it has to a lot to do with exporting. In many cultures, colors have certain meanings that can be bad or good, and this changes frequently (because of fad and fashion.) So, big exporters like Toyota and Nissan "play it safe" by making the blandest and most inoffensive colors possible. I think it's not so much that people like gray, it's just that they aren't likely to pass up a gray vehicle as they are one with a more defined color (like if green is no longer "in", then people might pass up on a green vehicle they otherwise would have bought.)

Personally, I have never owned a black vehicle and never plan to own one. I just don't like black for a 4 wheeled vehicle (although for motorcycles, I think black is perfect.) In fact, black is the only color that would cause me to not choose a vehicle I otherwise liked. Any other color, as long as I liked the vehicle, I'd be fine with.

Yes, I would even own a gray vehicle  I just wouldn't like it very much.

I've noticed that American cars are more likely to be in vibrant or unusual colors, I think because they are more intended for the domestic market and it's easier for the manufacturers to know what colors are "in" or "out" in the US as opposed to a foreign market.

My current favorite is the metalflake orange that you see on a lot of newer US branded vehicles now.

That is my favorite color for the 3rd gens. Toyota has much worse colors like the iceberg blue or whatever it is. Just a disgrace to all 4runner owners right there.

EASY NOW!!! lol
yeah but it is different than any other and it's rare , its paid for and in great shape. And I like it.

Haha, I was waiting for you to chime in. Yeah I'm not against your color, but IMO it isn't as nice as the Anthracite Metallic. I like the rare colors and Autumn Blaze is really nice in person.

Holy smokes, call me a nancy but that blue is PURTY! I haven't seen that color before. I like it. Did it come with grey flares?

That might be true if we were some small country, but we are a HUGE moneymaking market for Toyota, and one they are trying hard to get more market share in. If there was demand for the crazy colors here, they would do it

I think you nailed it on the head here. I think this is exactly why the US market colors are so standard.

3rd gen worse... that purple color (no offense to anyone that has it, just don't care for the color)

3rd gen best... Autumn Blaze. It's so sexy. I think there are NONE in the state of Arkansas :(

im not too ecstatic about my Desert Dune. It's kinda boring, but I get thumbs up and looks all the time so I'm not complaining :D

Here's a better view of that light blue. (Azure Blue Metallc)

I like my Autumn Blaze, thank you very much. Actually, there are better, but the Imperial Jade Mica was sold under my nose. Plus mine was a one owner 4runner, so methodical that the couple kept EVERY gas receipt plus everything that was done to it in 73,000 miles.

The color paint wheel for cars is extremely limited these days, another result I would think of the floundering economy.

I need to make a trip to Fredericksburg to swap out that bumper with mine.....
