Is your gas mileage as bad as mine?

I just got 17 on my last tank!

250,xxx original miles; 32" BFG ATs; 99 Tall springs; V6 5 Speed; 180 miles of under 40 mph city driving and 20 miles of 55 highway. Oh yeah, it was also three weeks of driving hahahaha

Ok they need to change it because the head gasket is made by a rubber material. In other words is a required mento to replace it to prevent leaks on the engine or your truck my end soon because engine is getting dirty oil by old driving. If you don't want to buy a new car later on do this service before is to late.

I'm full-stock, V6/auto/2wd and I get 19.6 mixed driving. I drive pretty much the speed limit, and am pretty easy on the accelerator.

Light kicks on usually around 270mi or so, and I fill up between 13-14g.

Guys - I say this with all due respect but I have had five 4Runners in my household over the last 20 or so years and the ONLY way you are going to get 20 MPG out of a 3rd Gen is to:

1) Drop it out of a plane
2) Drive it off a really long cliff
3) Tailgate a semi
4) Get towed to the top of a mountain. Turn it off and coast all the way down.

Sorry fellas claiming 19-20 MPG. Ain't happening. Never going to. Get a new calculator.

:-)

If you get 18 average out of a 3rd gen, you are doing better than 90% of us.

After replacing plugs and wires (plug wires were original to the truck!!), new OEM fuel filter, new air filter, deckplate mod, ISR delete, fresh oil, and a session of Seafoam....

I get about 360 km (225~ miles) per tank. Not amazing, but not super bad either.

'96 Limited with the V6, 290,000km.

I never run my truck empty partly because I don't know if the gas light works (is this supposed to turn on with the ABS, Oil, etc. lights when you start the truck?) so I usually go until the needle is touching the top of the "E" line... maybe there's more who knows.

My recent fill up was 12.4 gallons after traveling 229 miles which equates to 18.47 mpg. Loving the mpg but not liking the stock 15" rims but I can deal with it.

Love the guys who claim 20+ in a modded V6 truck.

The absolute most I was ever able to get was 24.1 MPG, this was in a bone stock, well maintained, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 2WD, rolling on 235's (28"), with 3.73 gears and absolutely no extra wind resistance (not even a factory rack), 95% highway at 55MPH, driving like a grandma.

That is literally the perfect set-up for maximum MPG's, and I did it through multiple full tanks, I think the most I got out of one tank was like 390-something miles before filling up.

Now, with all my mods I'm basically the worst case scenario when it comes to MPG's, Suspension and body lifts, 35" Tires, 4.88 Gears, lots of added weight and wind resistance (Plate bumper, multiple roof rack bits, roof mounted lightbar), and somewhat underpowered (more throttle, more of the time) and I'm lucky to get 15 MPG.

There is no point in lying about your MPG's anyway, telling people you get 25 MPG isn't saving you any money.

That's around what I was getting with my stock 01 Limited. I remember getting 300 or more on a tank when I drove 8 hours on I-10.

Now my currently 4R this last tank got 16mpg. With a mix of driving. 265/75R16 Load range E.
