Issue with A/C control head

My 2004 4runner sr5 will not blow out cold air unless the climate control is set on low. If it is set on 65 degrees or higher it blows out hot air. Took it to the dealership and they said it was the A/C control head and it would run $1200 with parts and labor. I am new to this board and would hope that you could give me some advise.

There is a sensor on the lower dash panel below where the ignition key is located, you should be able to see a slotted like vent, probably 1/2"x 1/2". You might have to remove that panel and check to see if it's unplugged. That's the sensor that detects the interior temperature and it's neccessary for the climate control to function properly.

If you had the radio or an alarm system installed, most likely the installer forgot to plug the sensor back in.

That's the first thing I would check before going back to the dealer.

Did you get this problem fix? I am having the same problem and the dealership tells me it would be $1069 to order the part!
