Issues with rim rubbing on brake caliper.

Hey guys wondering if anyone else had the issue that I was faced with today. I bought a set of 17 inch '17 Tacoma rims off of a guy to use a summers for my '07 Sport but the the brake caliper is just rubbing the inside of the front rims only. The caliper on the rear are single piston and have lots of room, while the fronts are double pistons and bigger overall. I didn't notice this until I pulled out of the garage and scored the rim all around. Thoughts? I'm thinking I could file the high spot on the caliper as there's lots of meat there but what kind of clearance should the minimum be between the calipers and rims.

The Toacoma rims have a step up as can be seen in the pictures where the OEM 4Runner rims don't have this step up which is the difference from rim to rim.

U could run a small spacer up front.

You think that the rim is tapered? Cause it's rubbing on the outside of the caliper not the front of the caliper. I'll measure it tomorrow and report back.

Man I could swear I’ve seen 4th gens with these wheels before.

4th gen Sport trim has larger brake caliper than SR5 trim, so 16" wheels may rub a little.

Yes, I have those rims on an '05 SR5 with no rubbing.

They're 17" rims and still rub, I'm planning on taking the file to the caliper and shaving the high spot off.

They look pretty sharp, but I put my winters back on until I figured out what I'm going to do....I'll get you a pic when I have them on again.

As [MENTION=75962]jmp55[/MENTION] stated in a post above, the problem that you are having with using these Tacoma rims is likely the size of the brake caliper/rotors on your model of 4Runner.

Yes I agree with you but it's odd that only the drivers side rubbed while the passenger side was fine.

Are you the original owner of your 4Runner?

My educated guess would be that at some point someone replaced either the driver or passenger side caliper/rotor with a different size.

I would check both calipers to see what is stamped on them (see my suggested threads above).

My input is to not expect rims from another car to work on your car with no issues. Just buy custom rims with the correct offset and your entire problem will disappear forever.

I ran into this exact situation today as well...unable to post a new thread as a newbie so I jumped onto an existing...above...I really don’t think I want to grind the high corners off my caliper bodies...think the adapters will work...anyone?

Man I could swear I’ve seen 4th gens with these wheels before.

I run Taco 17 inch rims with 33 inch rubber on a 2006 and 2007 but the rims do not have the same street side appearance.

I am having the exact same experience. Did you end up grinding the caliber a little bit ?

Nope got rid of the rims.

I run these 17" tacoma wheels. YES, they do RUB the caliper. Do not grind your caliper.

Easy fix is to put wheel spacers on or sell them. The wheel spacers I ran did not engage the stock wheel studs well so I bought longer wheel studs for my hubs front and back.

My notes about the wheel studs:

Longer front wheel studs needed in order to run wheel spacers
2003-2006 matrix or pontiac vibe, 55mm long.
AWD matrix Toyota PN 90942-02078
Dorman 610463 from a 2004 Matrix $1.42 each
