Issues with Split Second ESC1

A couple weeks ago i installed the Split Second ESC1 on my 97 4runner S/C. For the first couple days, everything worked fine. The video below shows what is currently happening.

To explain what the ESC1 does, here is the info sheet from Split Second
http://splitsec.com/products/datapdfs/esc1ds.pdf

"The ESC1 EGO Signal Conditioner alters the signal from EGO sensors under boost conditions. Under vacuum conditions, it outputs a signal which is identical to the EGO signals that appear at the input. Under boost, it outputs an internally generated signal to allow open loop operation."

Basically under boost, its richens the AFR so you make more power and have less chance of pinging.

However, mine appears to be doing the opposite. It worked fine for awhile. Then it started randomly leaning out the AFR's. I disconnected it a few days ago because i didn't want it to run lean. I reconnected it tonight and i can't get it to operate properly at all. I have double and triple checked all my wire connections and boost lines. It runs normal and does not lean out with the ESC1 disconnected and when i go full throttle, it still goes into open loop fine and doesn't lean out.

Here is the video. Yes i know its kinda long.

I know most people here 96-98 owners here are not supercharged and even less(if any) have or are familar with the ESC1. But i figured crossposting it here wouldn't hurt.

Anyone have any input?

My friend ran a Split Second boost controller on his 1.8T GTI. It gave him nothing but problems. It would randomly boost spike while crusing at freeway speeds, and would run low boost (like 4 psi lower than normal) under harder acceleration. My guess is that their melons are a little lop sided at the engineering facility.

Looks like the ESC1 isn't gonna work for me. I have been talking with Mastacox over on Ultimate Yota and he had similar problems to mine and ended up yanking the ESC1 and doing something different.

My other option is to try the URD O2 sensor calibrator but that is $220 which i really don't feel like spending that right now and could think of better things to use the money on. I think i am going to follow what Mastacox did and use a wideband unit to control my AFR's

If anyone wants to see how he did it, here is his thread.

Are you sure you're not losing fuel pressure somewhere?

Up until last week I was having a similar issue. I found my return line from my FPR was cracked and allowing fuel to leak out, thus causing my pressure to be nil. Replaced the line, and I cannot believe how well it runs.

When I say I had a similar issue, I mean it was exactly the same... Sometimes it would run great, but generally after getting into it a few times, the issue would arise.

I ran that thing for about 6 months with no issues at all. I am embarrassed that it's not working for you...

Is the TMC working fine...?

I feel like that if i was losing fuel pressure or if it was a fuel delivery issue, it would still lean out in open loop with i go full throttle? Also, it runs completely normal when i disconnect the ESC1. I probably should double check fuel pressure but i still find it hard to believe that i have a fuel pressure problem. I will check over everything to make sure that i'm not leaking fuel anywhere.

Don't worry about it. Its probably just my truck not liking the ESC1. I have seen some threads on trucks that it works fine on and some like mine that it just won't work. No way for you to have known that.

You're right, fuel pressure doesn't make sense if that's the case...

Perhaps give Gadget a call... He still sells them, I cannot believe he would sell something he doesn't trust...

Yeah i'm going to contact him and see if he has any suggestions. A buddy of mine is going to S/C his 96 4runner soon so maybe we will try running the ESC on his to see if it works better.
