It pulls my new boat like a dream!

I have a 2011 sr5 and recently picked up a new boat its a 94 Mastercraft and weighs about 2,600lbs (with fuel and cargo). I was pleasantly pleased to see how well the V6 pulled the boat. I just left it in drive to take off and once I got on the interstate I switched it to manual to avoid overdrive. :banana: It stops good and handles great. And most importantly it sits level.

Here are a couple pics I snapped with my iphone, I cut the 4runner off in both pics, I will get some better pictures later with my real camera of the whole rig.

According to my program:

94' 19' MC 260hp - 2450lbs - dry weight - no gear - no fuel - weight of trailer not included

94' 19' MC 310hp - 2625lbs - dry weight - no gear - no fuel - weight of trailer not included

Just FYI :)
 
Congrats! Good lookin 94! :thumb3: Does it have the standard 350 or the LT-1 engine? How many hours on it? I love snow but i cant wait to pull the boats out of storage every spring!!
 
Looks good behind that white SR5. Shouldn't be surprised that it tows well if you aren't even close to pushing the towing limits, and doesn't sound like you are even if it turns out you under-estimated the weight a little.

I was down in Florida this weekend and saw a guy trying to haul a 21' ProLine Center Console up the ramp with one of those little 'Benz SUV-ish things and I thought he was going to turn it in to a submarine there for a few minutes.

thanks man it has 600hrs on it, and is the LT-1, yea Im the same way I LOVE the snow but im always ready for spring!
 
Nice boat! Good to see another old school ski boat. My boat is about the same weight dry and my '08 V6 tows it well even even on steep grades. No sag either. Boat is an '87 Sanger TX... barefooter. Great slalom boat too. It flies.

Pulling a boat

We have a 21' Bryant runabout boat that we trailer to the lake once a week. We currently have a 2004 V8 4x4 and it does good. I noticed that the new 4Runners come in V6s. Will the V6 pull a boat? I believe it is around 4,000 lbs.
 
Welcome to the forum KT.

Look at the post right under yours on the exact same topic. You're better off reading what others said there and then asking your question in that thread instead of starting a new one - you'll catch more interest and responses that way.

Sorry about that but this post was put out 2 minutes before mine and I am posting off of my phone which takes a few minutes. If I would have seen this post I would have replied in it.

Is your boat 4,000 lbs dry? Does that include the trailer? You will notice a loss in low end torque with the V6, but once you get it up into the sweet spot around 2-3k rpm, it pulls well.

IMHO if you are over under 5K lbs gross weight on flat land, the V6 will do fine. If you are towing in the mountains or steep grades, I would stay under 4k lbs gross and add a tranny cooler.
 
Ok guys, I just wanted to mention something real quick. Apparently a few of you think you can tow things with your 5th gens, well, if you keep this up some 4th gen v8 guys might find out about this and get real mad. Best keep this a secret or else they will come over here and remind us that there is no way a 5th gen could tow a dog much less, GASP, a badass ski boat.


Just trying to save some lives here, I'm no hero, just a normal guy like everyone else...

P.S.- that 94 made me happy in the pants, just saying
