Over last couple of weeks have had problems with starter not cranking problem comes and goes with a couple turns of key. This morning however would not crank then started to crank then just stopped cranking before engine started and wont crank again. trying to locate security system to rule that out, not sure where it is located at. Good battery, good connections, starter I believe is ok.
Anyone have any thoughts about this. Its been really hard to diagnose do to fact it has been intermittent till now.

There's one or two threads on here about a problem with the fuel pump fuse having a defect and making intermittent contact, I think it's labelled "EFI" something-or-the-other on it and it's in the fusebox under the hood.

I think I've read some threads about ignition switch going bad, also, but it's certainly easier to check the fuse thing first, although I'm not 100% sure that the symptoms match.

I would probably lean towards the ignition switch first. If a fuel pump goes out, it'll crank all day, it just won't start.

Sounds like a silly question, but have you tried your spare key? I know a lot of keys have security chips in them (not sure ours do or not), but maybe it has gone bad.

No I haven't but will check

I have tried jiggling relays and swapping relays, checked fuses but will be checking switch

I don't think it's this situation, but when the EFI issue happens, it's the fuse, not the relay. I can't remember exactly, but it's a bad batch of fuses that don't fit the socket perfectly. But, like Husker Z said, I think it yields a "crank no start"... but it's easy enough to check the fuses.

Did you ever get the problem resolved or find out what was wrong? I have been experiencing the same issues, plus my key is difficult to turn, like the ignition switch will not unlock. I am assuming that it is the switch itself but the cranking and not starting is throwing me off a little. possible transponder issue?

Yeah I hope so I thought it was transponder too. After lots of testing it turned out to be a starter issue maybe the contacts but I replaced the whole starter. It was so intermittent it really made it hard to diagnose.

Mine would not crank at all intermittently, but would start most every time it cranked. I heard it wont crank if its the transponder giving issues. You could test theory with an uncoded key never tried.
