After reading this thread, looks like I was pretty lucky to find an 04 v8 4wd with 63k miles a year ago. Currently has about 79k
It's amazing how hard it is to find a low mileage 4Runner 4WD

Anybody looking that wants a good selection of 4WD's search the Denver area. There's always a ton available on Autotrader.
You'll have to sort through them and review the Carfax's (which most dealers make available in the ad). Some are rustbelt brought in from auction, some are SR5 rentals.
But there's some gems that pop up frequently particularly V6's, there's usually a good amount of V8's also.

Myself, I wasn't a fan of a Sport because of the XREAS (or a Limited with XREAS). Nor 2WD. 2WD is fine for some people but I think if you ever want to sell it 4WD is an easier sell.
any though about pricing? $7k with 140k mileage.. that about right ?

$7k is a great price but it's difficult to tell from that Craigslist ad what the real condition of the vehicle is and no Carfax. You'll have to dig in a bit further. The problem with Craigslist is sellers don't give much information.

Lock the center diff if you need it. Try driving in 4Hi unlocked first and if you are having trouble getting traction and the traction control is just not getting you moving like you want, then engage the center diff. Just remember to unlock it when you're back on high grip surfaces.

Yes, use the center diff lock in snow. If you're familiar with Toyota's nannies, one aspect is they cut engine power if there is wheel slippage. So there you are wanting to let it rip in snow and get moving, next thing you know the engine power is cut and you bog down. The center diff lock can be switched on/off on the fly and should be exercised monthly, just flick it on/off and drive a few feet.

I keep seeing threads/posts about how hard it is to buy a rare vehicle. It always comes down to "I found a clean one near me that was perfect for me, I tried to talk the seller down, but he wasn't having that, so I passed on it, it sold one day later, and it took X amount of months to find another."
That's crazy, if you find a hard to find vehicle don't try to get cute and wait out the seller. There's more people than you looking. At any one time there's about eight '05-'08 4WD V8 Limiteds available within 100 miles of Denver. Probably only two have less than 120k miles, maybe one had the timing belt replaced. Heres' a search today Used Toyota 4Runner AWD / 4WD Vehicles for Sale in Littleton, CO 80120 - Autotrader
The good ones will be gone fast. I had no problem paying full retail $19k for a clean '07 V8 Limited one owner local truck 100k miles timing belt/water pump replaced. I jumped on that one day after it hit the internet. It hadn't even been detailed yet by the Toyota dealer, had just come out of the service bay with a new steering rack and CV boots. That was a no-brainer, I was at the dealer first thing in the morning, this truck wouldn't have stayed on the lot long.
My view is if it's full retail and it's what you were looking for don't try to get cute. Pay retail because if you snooze you lose, someone else will snatch it.

Took months to find the right one. Ended up with 72k mi Salsa Red SR5 V8 4x4, $17k in Sept 2016 Was the right color, the right trim, lowest miles for the price. Had to drive 500mi from DFW to STL to get it.
Had probably 4 or 5 sold before i could get to them before that

Found an '08 SR5 V6 recently, one owner 50k miles. Guy selling it for his dad from NYC, with a little rust likely from near the ocean. Overall very clean and runs well. Couple of cosmetic issues, but nothing I can't fix. I need to replace front brakes and rotors, but that's the only big item so far.

That is insane. Doesn't even look to be in great shape. And I'd bet its timing belt hasn't been done. And they are asking 24k for a 12 year old truck. I'm in the wrong business!

Please, it's in great shape, easily worth $20k. You don't have to buy it, but that will be sold fast. I'd buy it in a hearbeat for $20-21k. There's just not many clean low miles V8 4WD Limited's available.

I found my 4th Gen last year. Purchased from the original owner, 2006 SR5 V6 4x4 with 38K. Has 41K now.

+1. Reading this thread validates why I still have my '08 Limited 4WD V-6 purchased new in Nov '07. Now just over 76k. First 4Runner owned. Usually trade vehicles after 7-yr itch, but not this one. See points A and C above.
Looking forward to what 6th gen will bring. Don't care much for 5th gen, but if they discontinue 4Runner, will be very interested in buying a new one of the then latest model year (and getting underside rustproofed immediately after purchase!).
