fricken sunroof rattle!

everytime i open my sunroof and pull the sunshade back i am treated to an annoying ticking sound. any slight bump or gust of air will set it off. i had this same problem last year and had a mechanic look at it, they shoved some felt somewhere and the noise went away.

now that the weather is improving, i am once again opening the sunroof, but the noise will drive me nuts.

i did a search and didn't find anything that sounds similar, anyone else have this problem? anyone have a solution?

btw, can i bring it to the dealer and have them work on this under warranty still?

thanks for the help

I had mine fixed at the dealer. They knew about the problem and had to order a parts kit to fix it. Parts came in, they fixed it and it has not rattled since. All under warranty and zero cost to me. There may have even been a TSB on it but I can't remember.

I had to visit the dealer twice and involve the Service Manager, but I got the parts installed and no more rattle.

I got my '05 SE last August and the dealer tried a few different things in an attempt to fix that rattling sound. Eventually, the dealer switched out the entire sunroof for a new one and I thought the sound was fixed. It started coming back about 6 weeks ago, and I dropped my 4Runner off at the dealer yesterday to have them take another look at it again. They don't know anything about a parts kit because no one said anything to me about a kit. I'm going to have to ask my dealer about a parts kit because I don't want to have to keep bringing my 4Runner in every few months to get this problem fixed. Thanks for the info toybox, I'm going to call the dealer this morning and ask them to look for a service bulletin and a parts kit. They still have my 4Runner and right now, I'm driving one of their stupid Camrys. I hate sedans.

I also had the rattle that you spoke of in my runner and had it repaired at the dealer since it was still under warranty. Not only did my roof rattle, at one point it was stuck in the open position, I had to PULL IT to shut it. .. .

I have not had any problems since the dealer repair.
