It's getting tinted!

damnt

:dammit:

I live in PA 3/4 of the year (college) and Texas in the summer. I just got the car tinted 20s in the front + pass windows, 5% in the back passenger windows and the back sides and back windows.
Completely TX legal. I just realized the PA law states that I can only have 35% in the front windows, and any in the back... well, they vaguely state that "The drive has to be visible to the officer, and thats around 35%.
So I'm wondering if I can get stopped for that? If I have TX plates can they stop me in PA and ticket me for it? I know the obviously can, but I wouldn't think they'd do it to someone just passing through.
Then again, I'm not just passing through, I'm spending about 8 months and then leaving... lol. Any thoughts or experiences that are similar? Do you think I'll have a problem?

Wow, this thread has got a lot of responses in a short time. I am going to get mine tinted soon too. Based on the other threads, about this same topic, I think I am going to go with 30% more on the front windows.

Has anyone tinted their windsheild......for the purpose of keeping your 4runner a little cooler. Let me stop you before I get a bunch of comments about getting a windshield shade......I realize that would be more effective. While I am inquiring about obscure tinting, anybody tinted their moonroof?

I haven't tinted my moonroof on my 4Runner, but I did on my Maxima and it made a huge difference. When I had it, we were living in an apartment and where I worked was uncovered. I could tell a big difference after I had it done. Now I have a garage and work out of my house, so i don't really need to do it.

Umm as far as I know it's illegal to tint your windshield except for above the AS1 line. There is a little line on top of your front windshield, you can tint above that but anything below is illegal.

Never thought about tinting my moon roof. I thought it came tinted already, but getting it darker isn't a bad idea  - thanks for planting the seed Momo

When i had the Maxima, just driving around, i could feel the heat coming through the sun screen for the moonroof. Once they tinted it, I could tell an imidiate difference. I think it only cost me $20 or so.

Here in NYC, front tint is allowed up to 8inches from top or above your eye line of site. Someone I knew had the front windshield tinted in Louisiana and was allowed.

sharp4runr,
Refer to the URL I posted above for windshield laws... while some limit it to the AS1 line, others allow 4 - 6" inches depending on the state... CO shows 4" on the link, but tintshop said it was 6" and mine goes a good inch or more beyond the AS1 line...

In TX too. You can get any percent in the back, which can be as dark as literally painting them with black paint. I got 5% light trasmittence in the back to hide my sub and amp, it looks good with the factory glazed tint too. Then I got the front at 20% which looks good too. Its legal in TX.
I got mine done the exact same way, and it makes a world of difference! In addition to keeping some of the heat out I like the dark look on both the inside and outside, so it was well worth it.
