It's the Little Things...High Beams turn OFF all lights?

Soooo this winter the high beams decided they didn't want to cooperate with the rest of my lights. At first, if I turned them on, the regular lights would flicker, but stay. Then after a few times, as soon as you turn the high beams on, ALL my lights turn off. Good thing the PO installed fog lights, lol, cuz my headlights SUCK!

I read a few threads saying that there could be a short in the wiring in the steering column? But I'd like to get a more definite idea of what to look for before tearing things apart. If you guys have experienced this problem, I'd much appreciate your input!

This is in a '95, btw. She's a pain in my @ss!

I'm no expert, but every time I've had electric systems get fukky like that it's been because of a bad ground somewhere.

Only one ground realy for this circuit. It is in the driver kick panel next to the fuse block, with 2 white w/black wires going to it.

I would be more inclined to lean toward the combination switch. which is going to be in the steering column.

You can test the circuits easily w/ a test light because it should be all power and ground.

I have the same problem. I took off the steering wheel and the plastic around the switch. I tweaked the contact that causes the circuit to make contact for the high beams. And just like that I had High beams. I was proud of my self for fixing it. That lasted about 3 days and then it stopped working again. Been to lazy to dig back into it (I will eventually).

Pull the steering wheel and the combo switch, open er ↑ and file the contacts. Worked on my 95. Was scary as hell when I was out in the country and tried the high beams at 65, coming around a corner.
