Aside from what I said above, I'd have to agree with you and John.....I'm not entirely sold on the reliability aspect of LED's, and since I'd most likely have to pay for the seller to ship me a replacement.....I'm thinking it would end up being far to expensive for the benefit.

My replacement would have cost $30 plus $15 shipping and $15 to ship the burned out POS taillight back to the Ebay scumbag. Mine lasted 6mons.....I still have one vertical row burned out on the pax side. As mentioned, I don't see it......the problems is I do check them more than usual just in case it's completely out then it's a safety issue. OEM on the shelf just in case.

LOL......I'm glad someone tossed me a mercy vote, I was starting to feel left out. j/k

Peace.......8sm

You shouldn't feel left out man....I would trade your ride for mine....ANY DAY!

My fav. For your rig is #2. but I don't know. I also think the 3rd option will go good with your chrome, but it won't really look OEM.

I see your options like this. If you get the OEM (non LED) ones, are you going to eventually want to upgrade to led's in the future? Cause that's gonna cost you even more down the road.

Oh and look up the seller ctrusa. He sells the eagle eyes for a little cheaper.

Considering the overall theme of your build, my vote goes to option 2 as well. Looks OEM, but with LED's :thumb3:

FWIW, I have the smoked ones and the LED's are doing fine so far. I guess maybe I got a pair from a good batch or something...we'll see how long they'll last though.

Well, folks, I want to thank you all for your votes! It was really interesting to see what you all thought about the subject, and it was a little bit of an eye opener for me! I can always count on my fellow "brothers" to show interest in such a modification, and as I've said before....a thread like this would never be as well received on my local forum. I can already hear the comments..."New tail lights won't get you home from the trail" or "Those pretty lights will only get smashed if you take it in the bush"! Kinda makes you think sometimes......

Anyway, I've decided to go with Option number 1. When not depressing the brakes, they look exactly the same as Option 2, but have the reliability of a traditional bulb. (in seven years....I've never had to change a tail light bulb!)

That being said, looks like I've made a deal with 01KY4R (aka Greg), for his 01's for $75.00 for a pair!

He's forwarded me these photos of the tail lights, and eventhough they are not perfect....they are definately going to be an improvement!

Now I just need to wait til he orders his LED's, and sends the Paypal Request....then I'm gonna be rockin some new (to me) tail lights! :guitar3:

Glad this worked out. I understand the risk of buying the LEDs, but I had a set on my Ram for over two years and they worked great. Plus I get to say I contributed to fights b/a Runner!

FINALLY! Damn, If it took this much debate for a set of tailights, i would have hate to see all you went through to buy your truck, or even worse, you house!

JK, you made a wise choice!

HA HA HA! BTW, it took me over 6 months to decide on what vehicle to buy....and a week to finally decide to pay what I did for this 4Runner! As for the house....it was the 3rd house we looked at....that year! We looked 2 years in a row previously! lol!
