itune pros Help!

I have my Scion HU with mp3 capability but when I burn songs off itunes, they appear to be m4p files. I can only fit 19 songs on 1 cd when I believe in mp3 format, you can fit almost 100 songs on a standard CD. Is there a way to change itunes format to mp3? Will this allow more songs or am I missing something? This is probably a very easy fix but I'm not to familiar with burning and changing music format. I tried this CDex software that supposedly reformats standard wave files to mp3 but with all the file protections and lack of knowledge, I couldn't get it to work.:awais: !

Update: I did locate how to burn mp3 files in itunes but when I change to burn in mp3 format and then attempt to burn disc, it tells me files cannot be burned to the disc. Tried new CD-R but no dice. What gives now?

What you need to do is to go into iTunes and click on EDIT on the top left... then click PREFERENCES. A window should pop up, click the tab on the top that says ADVANCED. within that tab you will see 3 more tabs. Click the tab that says BURNING. Then the second option from the bottom should say MP3 CD click on that and then click OK at the bottom of the screen. You can then burn your CDs through the iTunes program.
In order to do that you will need to insert a blank CD into your CD R/RW Drive. To Burn the songs onto the disk you will need to have them in a playlist. if you need to make a playlist click FILE at the top left of the program window, then Click NEW PLAYLIST. Once the songs you want are in your playlist and you are ready to burn the CD, click the circular disign at the top right of your program window, it should say BURN DISK.
It should then burn the CD in MP3 format.

Are any of the songs that you are trying to burn bought through the iTunes music store? if so Apple is a bitch and wont let you burn them in MP3 format. This is probably your problem

Yes I bought them through the music store. You got to be kidding!!!??? That is why I got itunes. I wanted to burn up to 100 songs on 1 disc-no need for a changer. If this is true, I just wasted 40bucks! on top of that, I just read that you can only burn the songs in your library 7 times. Thats what it said anyway. This really stinks! I wonder what the guys with scions use? The scion manual talks about organizing folders with diff types of music on one cd. I also read about an mp3 encoder. Can't find anything in my CDRW properties that talks about an encoder plug in.

yea it is rdiculous, they say it is so that people dont steal/share music, but i think it is a scheme to make people buy iPods. I do have an iPod now tho, and i just have it hooked up through the casette adapter on the factory HU. not the absolute greatest sound quality, but if you mess with the settings enough you can get it to sound pretty decent. Better than my older Rav4 at least
 
I'm sure this sounds dumb but an ipod allows you to listen to and manage itunes? I wonder if that TOY-AUX auxilary input converter by Precision Interface Electronics for my Skyfi2 will also allow me to use an ipod also at the same time by switching between the radio/cd/xm/ipod? I have to check on this. Maybe an ipod is my future now... Thanks for the guidance everyone!:beer:
 
I use my 20G Ipod with the PIE adapter and it works nicely. I recommend either waiting for the new product made by Blitz (I think) that charges your IPOD through the connector at the bottom, connects it to your headunit as well as showing the Song title on the head unit.
 
sharp, that sounds like the route I most likely will take. Be sure to post if you get that adapter.
One more question about itunes. It appears the 40 songs I burned are not in mp3 format. Is there any way to change these songs to mp3 or does itunes expect me to buy them again and burn them in mp3 format. I would hope that I could convert them without too much hassle. I know anything is possible for many computer wizards. I am not one so I would need a program for dummies.
 
OK, this is what I do when I purchase music from Itunes. You CAN NOT BURN directly to MP3. Copyright infractions I guess.

1. I burn to music to CD format in Itunes. However I do not fill up the CD. Max to an average of seventeen songs.

2. I then rip these songs into Itunes as MP3s. If you have a full CD of more than 17 songs I have found out you lose the track titles and other CD info.

3. You can now burn these songs onto an MP3 list.

I've been in your position this is the only way I figured out how to create an MP3 disc.

DO you use the itunes software to rip the music from the cd back into itunes as mp3 and then use itunes to burn a cd of mp3's? See, I said I was bad with this stuff!

Unfortunately it does take some time. Make sure you have some CD-RW on hand tha way you can reuse the CD's. I use itunes to rip the CD you just burned. Just go into the preferences to import.

ENSURE YOU ARE USING THE MP3 ENCODER NOT THE AAC ENCODER.

If you use the latter out you are back at the some point.

Go there for a permanent solution to this problem. Review the boards and insructions until you FULLY understand how this works and the risks involved. After that, unlock all of your iTunes encrypted files and turn them into actual, unprotected MP3's.
 
Thanks all! I just made my first mp3 cd by following your instructions Grimace. I used the Dell music match to copy from CD to the Dell MM library and then burned a CD using Dell MM in MP3 format. Only one q: it asks for internet access to look up song info. If I said no, would it still burn? Is someone out there watching me make this CD? I didn't want to screw up the burn so I said yes. Seems strange that it has to gather information from the web.
And thank for the web sites arron and cleric. They will be saved in my favorites!
Oh, I did burn 60 tracks and it appears only 1 song so far seems to have hiccups! Not bad, now I have to try to scrub them! For my own persoanl use that is:D Hell, I paid for them, itunes wants to tell me how to use them also... don't think so! Will not be passing them around though, thats for sure!

I believe musicmatch is trying to find album art and other tag information such as track title, track number, year, genre...
I wonder what Apple is coming out with tomorrow? Could it be a video ipod?
