I've read through the T-case differences thread and it didn't answer my question. Are there any differences between the j-shift case on auto trans and the j-shift case on the manual trans?

Hey, do you have the auto or the manual? There's a fellow in Sandy trying to sell an auto trans and tcase for $200, and I bet you could get a couple bucks back selling just the trans or even scrapping it...
All standard J shift cases for the 96-00 V6 4Runners are the same. No difference between the auto vs manual trans except that cases for the auto trans have an extra wiring plug for 2wd/4wd position. Multimode cases are obviously different
If you are picking up a auto case to install with the manual, you can just tape off the extra plug. For a manual case going into a auto, you can pull the extra plug off your old case and add it to the new one.
The cases for the 4 cylinders autos are the same as the V6 but the 4 cylinder manuals are different.
