Jammed Center Storage (Below HVAC Controls)

Hey All,

My wife keeps her iPhone cord rolled up in the bin just below the the HVAC controls that you push to open. I'm not sure how to describe it, as it's not the center console or a "change" holder; it's just storage.

Anyways, it's jammed and I can't get it open. I think the cord is probably jammed in the latch. Any thoughts on how to free it? I'm guessing I might have to pull apart the dash.

Thanks

Try this….!

Here is a photo of the door open revealing the button that simply pushes in to release the door

This photo is of the door closed. Slide a very flat piece of metal between the top of the door and the upper door frame and push in releasing the latch. You may have to push in AND slightly down to unlatch. Although I used my wife's fingernail file for demonstration, i recommend a stiff piece of very flat, smooth metal.

This really helped! Thank you.

I wasn't able to find a piece of metal that was thin enough. However, from this pic I was able to see what the latch looks like. A few times of just pushing directly over the latch freed it.

Thanks again.

I had something similar happen with my glove box. What an expensive mess to resolve, it was lock related. So far the storage unit you had difficulty with is OK on my 4runner

What is this piece called?

I just got an 04 T4R and this little compartment is super floppy and loose and i cant seem to find a replacement anywhere. Mostly because i don't know what to search for to try and find it. Has anyone had to replace this piece before? Anyone know where to look? Anyone know what it is actually called?
