Janky to Swanky?? Shifter bezel makeover

So my shifter bezel has been pretty janked up for quite a while now, cracked, crooked, light doesnt work, just pretty bad looking. I thought, how about a boot similar to the one next to it? Bought some heavy duty upholstery vinyl and sewed (in a manly way) this one up. Sure you lose the shift pattern slide thing but its on the dash too... Could be an option for others so i figured i'd post the idea.

I like it! I had to do a double take just to be sure what you had done there. It does look 100X better than the stock indicator to me!

Oddly enough, I've hung onto a spare piece of heavy, marine-grade vinyl for years (originally thought I'd try to re-upholster my motorcycle seat... bought one instead). Now I just need to learn the "sewing" thing you speak of ;-)

I like it too. I may do that as well, noticed the other day that the light doesn't work anymore. May as well spend the money on that instead of lights. How'd you connect it underneath the opening?

lol bedazzled... that will be for the headrests. to put it on you have to take the shifter handle off, the hardest part of that is getting the OD button appart without losing the spring inside (so just be prepared for that). the shape of the thing is a V more or less and the pointy end slips over the shifter shaft and then i zip-tied that tight, then roll the rest of the boot down over the entire shift indicator assembly with another long zip tie gathering it all at the base, then the actual bezel goes on. in retrospect, some thinner material may be better, the t-case shifter boot is thin stuff with some sound deadening stuff glued to the inside. with thinner vinyl it would "move" like the t-case one but i think as it breaks in it will be just fine.

Very nice. Looks like it's factory. And by stitched in a manly way did you mean the method used to stitch up an open wound caused by an errant machete blade? If so, then it was stitched in a very manly way.
