The Spiker Engineering Products Thread

Spiker Engineering

official vendor
I decided to combine my various threads on Spiker Engineering products into one - this would serve as the place to highlight our products (current and new), as well as for Q&A and for announcements of sale events.

Spiker Engineering is a family run business - all of our items are designed right here in Southern California, and are fabricated in the US. We make a variety of products, which usually get their start from a need that is not well addressed by existing solutions. I personally design and engineer all of our products, and test them out in my truck before making them available for sale to the community (and usually ask willing volunteers to test them too, *cough* JZiggy *cough*). That way the products and the installation instructions are well vetted.

Ultimate Lift Hood Struts.

Our first product, and still our best seller, is the Ultimate Lift hood strut kit. It allows you to pop the hood and have it open effortlessly to a height of up to 8" above stock height. You'll appreciate the extra lighting and access that comes with the extra height, all without the prop rod in your way. To answer a common question, the hood struts do not have to be set to the maximum height - any position between stock prop rod height and up to 8" higher can be accommodated.

The kit includes all components needed for installation: enameled premium gas springs sized for the 4Runner's hood weight and geometry; gloss black mounting brackets; ball studs and Belleville washers; and heavy duty multigrip rivets that can accommodate even oversized holes without the need for a backup washer. Also included is a drill bit stopper to control the drilling depth, and illustrated step by step installation instructions.

You can read more about the hood strut kits and order them here.

Our hood strut kit is also available on Amazon.

Ultragauge/Scangauge Mounts.

Next is a set of mounts that securely hold the Ultragauge, Scangauge II, and the recently released Scangauge III. These mounts are made from 14 ga steel, and powder coated in matte black. They attach to the a-pillar grab handle, and are designed to place the gauges directly in your line of sight without obstructing your view of the road.

We also have an add-on gauge holder for these mounts for standard 2-1/16" gauges - trans temp, boost, etc:

Phone Mounts.

Our phone mount attaches to the dash just above the center bezel, placing the phone where you can easily see and reach it, without obstructing your view of the road, the AC vents, or the clock.

The mount is made from 14 ga steel, powder coated in matte black. It is custom shaped to closely fit the curved dash surfaces, and attaches to the dash with pre-adhered pads of 3M VHB LSE tape. We also include two optional push pins to fully lock the mount to the dash. With the push pins installed, the mount will hold up to most any kind of wheeling you have in mind!

The actual phone mounting surface can accept a wide variety of phone holders, from magnets to any holder that works with the rectangular AMPS pattern, like the Panavise, RAM, and similar phone holders. Most of these options are available from our website (we're an authorized Panavise and RAM dealer, so these products are guaranteed to be legit).

Any possibility of a Scangauge III mount for the 5th Gen? I’ve got a 2022 and would like to mount one like this.

I have one of his Phone Mounts, which I am using for my Garmin GPS instead of a phone, and I have been very impressed with it.

If using a GPS and letting it stay mounted constantly as your vehicle sees a 30-100 deg. F temperature range, it is prudent to add the push pins. The push pins probably wouldn't be necessary you were removing the load from it (like with a phone that you take with you), or if your vehicle didn't get very hot inside. It is pretty solid without the push pins, and extremely solid with the push pins.

Had a guy outside O'Reillys ask me where to get your hood struts the other day, he was well impressed

The hood on my T100 is so dang heavy.
Already upgraded my 3rd gen with a set of hood struts and figured, hey maybe Leon offers these struts for the T100…….BINGO!
Just placed an order, 15% discount for Black Friday…….life is good!
Thanks for taking care of us Toyota crazed dudes!
Happy T-Day to you Leon and the crew at Spiker Engineering.

Another thing I forget to buy is Leons hood lifts. They would make my life a lot better. I am currently focused on the Black Friday sale at our local pick and pull Tomorrow.. :D

However, I do need to get many sets of those..lol.

Finally pulled the trigger on a set of hood struts!
I know I'll be kicking myself for waiting so long...

Thanks again for supporting this forum!

I'm running one of these phone mounts after trying many other solutions and love it. Nice work. I added a hole to bolt the lowest surface to the dash fwiw.

ETA alright I ordered a strut kit too thanks for the cool mods and reasonable pricing

So if you ever considered getting a scangauge for your 4Runner, this is a great way to get both the scangauge and the mount at a great combo price.

Cool beans!

Side note - the Scangauge III has gotten fancy, do they support trans temp readings without any programming these days? Might have to donate my Atari Pong-level graphics UltraGauge to a friend and join the Present one of these days. I know the BT apps are awesome, but I like a standalone device not dependent on my phone.

edit - I found the X-Gauge settings for Toyota on their site.

Getting ready to send my rear struts off to Canada (strutwise.com) to increase their lift capacity and wondering if you have any upgraded bushing ends before invest to much time coming up with something myself. It's pretty clear the OEM rubber bushing wont cut it with the extra load...

Just picked up your phone mount with the magnet. Soooooooo much better than having to use the cup holder. 10/10!

Unfortunately not, we don't have anything for the liftgate struts.
