JBL 6 disc changer a direct fit?

Hi all. Is the JBL 6 disc changer a direct plug and play? I'm a bit old school as far as stereos go and, if you can believe it, still listen to CD's. I prefer the stock look over aftermarket head units and was really hoping this would plop right in.

Again... I searched and searched without a definite yes or no. Would hate to spend the money to find I have to hack up my dash.

It will bolt up without any modification. The face plate will come forward about 1/2 inch or so. I installed a Subaru 6-CD indash changer into a toyota. Both Subaru and Toyota stereo's are made by Panasonic. You will have to get the wire plug that goes into toyota 6-CD changer and route those into an aftermarket wire plug to go into your toyota existing stereo wire harness. Few toyota 6-CD changers got an external amp. Can you post the rear of your stereo?

If you plan to buy one, go with the subaru stereo. I came across few damaged toyota 6-CD changers but non subaru.

One more thing, Hilanders came with a 6-CD changer. That has a wider faceplate than the body. Avoid this model.

For my 99 I found one with the little JBL square under the cassette in a wrecked Sequoia. It is a tight fit but doable. I had to modify the lower ears I believe, but nothing major (thinking I had to use longer screws). It does stick out further than the single disc one by a few mms.

There's nothing wrong with "still" listening to CD's. They sound much better than compressed MP3's. I have a Sony ES H.U. & 6 disk changer under the drivers seat. Good luck on your search.

Not sure the car it came, but the link I provided is the same exact thing.

Take the old one out, remove the two side brackets. Use only the 5mm bolts. Install the brackets to the new CD player and slide it back in. I think the Scramble is right, the two bottom 8 mm bolts that hold the brackets to the dash won't go all the way. So tight it snug and you are good.

Check the wiring diagram of a subaru and route those wires into a toyota aftermarket wire plug.

The wiring diagram shows the back of the stereo: directly looking it the wire plug located at the back of the stereo.

Toyota has 2 plugs (10 and 6). In the toyota plug picture, notice the top shows 10 plugs and bottom shows 6 (got the rear speaker output).

No, but it will fit well enough. The bottom attachment ears won't be flush with the dash bracket so I did use longer screws and some nylon spacers to hold it tight.

I think Lowes sells a pack of them. Cut it to fit with a dremel:

I don't like all the new high tech stereo controls and also the climate controls. I much prefer the 1997 4runner climate controls. What more could you possibly need? It would be nice to have an older stereo that accepted USB.
