Jdm 4runner transmission

Does anybody know if the jdm 4runner transmission (30-43LS) will just plug and play to a usdm 4runner (I have a 00 model 2wd) whats the main differences between the two? I searched online and nothing popped up except jdm shops that sells the transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

No one has ever replaced their transmission with a jdm one?

I can't say for certain, but I highly doubt the trans would be plug and play due to JDM being RHD I would assume some of the linkage etc would be on the wrong side of the trans? I have experience installing a JDM trans into an MR2 and there was a small amount of custom work necessary to convert the linkage to the other side etc. but like I said just a guess could be completely different due to location of the trans in these trucks.

Hello, I am currently in the process of installing a JDM transmission with 70,000 miles into my 98 3.4L 4wd. The next night I get a call from my mechanic (Toyota/Lexus service tech) Apparently the transfer case is about 3 inches longer on the JDM one than the OEM one therefore you need to shorten the rear driveshaft by 3" and extend the front one by 3" to compensate for them. Keep all the wiring harness, I think you need to swap them(just in case) I told him let's just swap out the transfer case from the old one he said he can't because the hardware is on the opposite side. The shifter is on the opposite side too so he is gonna see if he can install the OEM one. I had a hard time searching for an OEM 4wd 3.4L transmission so JDM was the only one I had to go for. People seem to take advantage of how rare they are so they mark up the prices. If I could do it again I would go with OEM unless you are into modifying driveshafts.
