Honestly, I've NEVER seen an oak/tan field monitor trim. In fact, I've never seen a Hilux Surf that didn't have the Moon Mist interior. I'm guessing they were never made.

I saw a listing that was just a gray shell for the field monitor a couple weeks ago, in the description he said he replaced it with a tan shell to match his interior, so it must exist somewhere.

I would ask that guy if he knows what Surf it came out of. Maybe a 99+ Surf? All of the 96-98 Surfs I've seen were Moon Mist, haven't been around too many later ones to know the average distribution of interior colors.

Oak interior with the 5VZ. No field monitor but it points to a possibility.

That price is really good for these units.
Most I have seen on Yahoo Auctions JP run around 12,000 yen - 20,000 yen + add in 1,000 - 2,500 yen for shipping locally in Japan.

So yeah, $200 is really good price IMO.

I bought one for my 99 but never installed it and ended up selling it to another member here.

Just remember that if you're getting it for the temp display that it only reads in C, and AFAIK there is not a practical way of getting it to read out in F.

Not a huge deal - I got used to thinking in terms of Celsius when I was in the Middle East in 2004. It helps if you remember your "cardinal number" equivalents: 10c is 50f. From there every 10c is another 18f so 20 = 68, 30 = 86, 40 = 104 and 50 = 122 (yes, it got that hot over there!)

Actually, the majority of FMU installations I've seen were gray pieces painted beige, which includes the one in that picture according to this post. Like I said, all the Surfs I've been in had the Moon Mist interior. Never saw an Oak interior surf with an FMU.

bumping this out of curiosity for OAK field monitor units. I've been doing the research and it doesn't seem like ANYONE has ever seen a Hilux Surf FMU in original Oak color, only seen Moon Mist painted to match.

Has ANYONE ever seen an OAK fmu in person? How much would an OAK fmu go for if it was out there? More than the Moon Mist probably?
