T-Man - keep in mind the MTM has little siping. So they will be good in deeper snow, but once on ice or hard pack snow you have no Siping like your ATM to catch and give you grip. I ran a MT very briefly in a northern Rockies winter, they were quickly replaced by a AT tire for the remainder of the winter.

I'm looking at picking up some MTs and have been shopping around, seems like the Hankooks are relatively cheaper than the other big name brands and I really like the tread pattern on them, aggressive but still looks almost like an AT. how are they in the mud and on pavement? i'll probably be driving the majority of my time on road with decent MPG on them but still want to be able to kick up some mud and not get stuck when its time to go offroading

I like them enough that once they wear down, I'll replace them with the exact same tire. When compared to the BFG M/T of the same size, the tread footprint on the Hankook is slightly narrower.

how many miles have you gotten out of them so far? and how many more do you project to get out of them before getting a new set?

About 10K so far. No idea how many more. The truck is not my daily driver, so I'm not too worried.

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated! I just pulled the trigger on the hankook dynapros in a 285/70R17. Saw enough good reviews about them through this site, Toyota120, FJC, and TacoWorld forums. Can't wait to get those bad boys on and sling up some mud!
PS: really digging your 4th gen. by far my favorite galactic gray 4th gen on this site! your rig has served as inspiration for my own ever since I started browsing this forum

My wife decided to take the 4Runner to work today due to the icy conditions. She went to QuikTrip to get a drink. As she was waiting to pull out of the parking lot, a Nissan Titan approached the entrance lane too fast and slid into the front of the 4Runner. Demello bumper is unscathed. Titan front bumper didn't turn out well. Driver's insurance is expired, so good thing no damage to the 4Runner. Lower damage is where he hit the driver-side front Hankook tire.

Here's one shot of it from the front...
I will need to cut some of the LCA skids back so they don't hit the new RCI skid when I'm offroading.
Hey jediwebdude, did you ever end up cutting back your LCA skids? I just installed my BAMF LCA skids last weekend and i'm getting a set of RCI skids so i just wanted to know if you ran into any issues with them coming into contact and if so what you did to solve it? Thanks

Never had to do any cutting on the skids. However, the RCI skid plate is hitting my stabilizer bar, so gotta figure out how to remedy that.

We hit Moab for Spring Break as a family offroad adventure. While we went out their unaccompanied, we did meet some other offroaders from TX in a Jeep Liberty and a Hummer.

What did you learn that made you decide a front locker is not a good idea? Awesome build!

The front locker applies pressure that can result in an "explosion" of parts, causing serious damage. The mechanics have seen the results on multiple occasions. It is best to rely on A-TRAC in the front and to carry a spare OEM CV axle. Better to have the CV axle go out than the explosive alternative.
