Jeep Gladiator or waiting for 6th Gen 4runner

On average, there will be fewer problems with any vehicle in each passing year after the first launch of a new model or major update to an existing model.

Also the Toyota will likely have fewer problems than the Jeep in its first year.

Live in southern CA so looking for something rugged that I'll be able to go in the snow, dirt, camping and off-roading once or twice a month, kinda regret selling my 4runner which was a perfect vehicle...want to wait to see what 6th will look like but at the same time I dont know if I can wait for two years.

I'm on my 3rd 4runner. Everytime I've switched to a different vehicle I come back to the 4runner. There's just nothing quite like it.

This is gonna rub some people the wrong way but 5th gen 4rnr is the best lookin off-road capable vehicle and if you don't look good out there what's the point? Jeep gladiator just looks so wrong to me.

I would vote for the Jeep Gladiator. I rented a new Wrangler Rubicon for 7 days when I was in Vail, CO. Absolutely Fell in love.

4runner is just as underpowered as the Gladiator, coming from someone that has a built 06 4runner that I love dearly. But I will also be buying a Gladiator because taking the roof and the doors off are worth their weight in gold to me. On the trails in CO we took those items off and it really just made the experience that much better.

Now its definitely squeaky inside, but with the removable roof that is to be expected. We broke the volume button on the radio in the Jeep, not sure how but we did.

4runner is a great vehicle, but the Gladiator just hits all the right spots, plus the diesel will be coming out soon so it will be that much better.

I know this doesn't get much mention yet, but what about the upcoming Bronco? It may be a compelling choice vs. the Wrangler and will have removable doors and roof. If the new Lincolns are any indication, Ford may have a ringer on their hands...

I mean, Ford does not have a good reliability record (seat belts catching on fire, steering wheels falling off) but I do love the idea of a new Bronco and it definitely would be more reliable than anything Fiat/Jeep produces.

I could be tempted if Toyota decides to neglect the power train in the 6th Gen by just slapping the current Tacoma setup in there. 10s 0-60 and 19 MPG just does not cut it anymore.

This thing looks awesome and they’re surely monsters on the trail, but why does this look so good? Oh, because he dumped an insane amount of money into it AND added that rear bed rack that basically makes it look like the wrangler. Sooooo...

I couldn't bring myself to roll the dice with a Jeep. They're cool but my neighbor drives nothing but Jeeps and they are constantly going to the dealer for one thing or another. Maybe it's a fluke, but I am too spoiled by Toyota quality. Flame-suit on.

I'd say jump on the 2yr lease deal with the gladiator. If it really is that cheap, it's not a bad plan. If you fall in love with it, keep it. If not, return it and pick up a 6th gen.

I can't can't ever own a Jeep. When you own a 4Runner and have that level of quality how can you really ever go to a Jeep?

My last 4x4 was a Jeep. While I loved it, it was a piece of junk and I'm here now. I've got friends with new/newer Jeeps and after seeing how often they have to take them in for repairs and recalls, that made the decision for. If you want to throw money and time at it and have fun for a few years, do it. It you want to have something last, don't.
