My g/f has a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with the 4.0L inline six engine. Fortunately, it is a 'second car' (which she wants to sell) and she has a Toyota Highlander as her primary vehicle. Anyway, it is throwing a code - diagnosed as "1494" by Auto Zone.

What does this mean in plain English? How much will it cost to fix?

Those fuel systems have a pump (not the fuel pump for the engine) to put a slight head-pressure on the fuel system. There's also a pressure switch to confirm the system holds the slight pressure. The idea being a tight system won't be releasing fuel vapors into the air.

My guess is one of two things:

- The pressure tranducer is faulty.
- The pump device is screwed up.

Well, the "error code" disappeared and the 'check engine' light turned itself off once again. Let's hope it stays there!

Thanks. I'll have to keep that in mind.

We're in the process of trying to sell the darn thing. It runs good and she's put a lot of money into it over the past year, but it's time to go. The 4.0L inline six is a good engine; but the rest of that "Chrysler Quality" shines right through. LOL!
