Jeep salesman said MT Wranglers are far more reliable - true?

Sounds like BS, but the two stick shifts look AWESOME
Well the rest of the car would be the same, but the manual trans is definitely more stout than the auto. Chrysler has always had crappy automatics.

Jeep JK's are amazing off road vehicles.Front and rear solid axle and lockers is what makes them superior, lifting them is a breeze to fit 35's. The motor and tranny are good just not as good as Toyota. Also on road it takes little getting used to the noise and handling.Those who can DIY the maintenance can make them last.
I understand what you're saying but I don't think it's nearly that bad.
I think they're decently reliable vehicles but Chrysler's transmissions have always been a weak point and almost ALWAYS fail before the engine, so I would agree that a manual transmission Jeep is more reliable than an auto Jeep

rookie response - probably off topic a bit?
I just sold my audi wagon and planned to buy a Jeep..........my thinking was having a convertible SUV in south west florida would be more fun that the audi wagon, and I could take to dog .
Rubicon looked cool so I set out to find one that I could test drive. that took over a week, there are none available.
Finally got a call from a dealer they had a new 21 - left over......so I went to test drive it. It was set up with 35's ----- and it was the v6.
I get it - fun to drive, harsh, lots of offroad capability --- but $64,000??? No tailer hitch---and they load dealer cheese on it like MKT adjustment , and some fake wax?
Yes it would be fun, but I plan to order a pro and save 8k
They had two 392 rubicons on the floor ----$100,000 - (MSRP $78), I asked if they would sell at MSRP and the sales guy laughed and said that you can't even test drive them unless you pay take delivery. I love florida.

I doubt it is any more reliable but it is possible. I know a LOT of Jeep guys with autos and none have had any issues. The one issue some have had is a oil cooler recall. The JK auto transmissions have not been an issue. I have my eye on the V8 but primarily as my off-road toy. That said, I am not buying till the prices are back to normal and I can wait a year or two.

The Jeep is fun. It's a V6 auto. The transmission is clunky. Vehicle requires more steering input on the highway. It came with wind noise. Developed something loose in the dash. The fisheye backup camera is not very good. The Jeep is a toy. 4runner is a tool.
Also have a modified 93' Wrangler. It's pre dented for trail usage.
