Jeep Wrangler vs Mercedes G550 vs Toyota Land Cruiser Comparison

Although the article was just for fun, (speaking of the comments section) there is no way anyone in their right mind would take a Jeep Wrangler over a Toyota Land Cruiser (or the Merc G550 for that matter) when money is of no concern. Are Jeep people really this delusional??

Now, after seeing enough Mad Max movies, isn't gas the main concern in Apocalypse?

I will get Prius V. Big enough to carry some junk. Ultra-reliable...gas and tires needed only. Great on gas.

Of course, outrunning head hunters may be a problem...but it does have enough room for plenty of guns and ammo.

I dunno... "Witness me!!" seems like it would be a lot less impressive in a Prius. Better attach a few propane tanks and nozzles so it at least shoots fire.

I wouldn't want a 200 series. I'd much rather an LC70 double cab or troopy. But let's be serious, if you really want to be mowing down, well, anything, a hummer is a better choice, especially an armored one.

Unfortunately a Prius will only work on smooth uncluttered roads. A bad traffic jam or bridge washout and you're stopped cold.

And gas will be less of a concern than you think because all gas will eventually go bad. Assuming a real TEOTWAWKI apocalypse where the grid goes down and refineries stop working, gas in poor storage containers will be useless in as little as 6 months; even in perfect storage it'll only last a few years at most. For the majority of survivors gas won't be available more than a year out. So yes, the Land Cruiser has far better long-term reliability than the Jeep, but it won't matter because you won't be driving it long anyway.

The best possible stock vehicle to navigate back roads and drive cross-country with the best short-term gas-mielage is the Wrangler.

If you've got a fully built-out rig, then the article is right; the Land Cruiser would be the way to go. But if you're talking a pure stock vehicle, then there's no question that the Wrangler is the best option by far. The article deducted points for on-highway ride, but when trying to get as far away from populated areas as possible as quickly as possible "comfort" is the least of your concerns.

The end-of-the-world vehicle I am building runs on propane and has a high-rail system. Think about all the propane tanks in homes around this country and the 10 of thousands of abandon rail road track.... It is starting with a 1970 international scout w/ v8.
