Knocking coming off a stopped Position

I own a 2002 Limited. Often when I'm at a dead stop(say at a traffic light or stop sign), and let off on the brake, the truck jerks a bit(could also be described as a light knock), as if the brakes stuck while releasing. i'm not hitting the gas yet, so this issue is completely isolated to dead stops.

any ideas?

thanks

I think that sticky brakes are a possibility but most people attribute the problem you described to the driveshaft. If you don't lube the u-joints every oil change then I would recommend you start. Hopefully that will eliminate your problem

I change my own oil and until recently(105,000miles), I had never greased the driveshaft or U joints. I greased them for the first time a month ago, and hit all the grease points(front and back).

Question - how much grease do you use? I pumped until i could see grease coming out from the seams, but didn't go beyond just seeing a slight amount start to appear from the seams.

thanks

Yep, thats how I do it, until I see grease coming out; sometimes I will keep going until I see the new cleaner grease coming out, and then wipe away the dirty grease.

I had to think twice before i clicked on this thread. :biggrin2:

hahaha yeah I immediately thought "man, swap one word around and this thread would get deleted"!

But back to the topic, it's likely that at least one of your u-joints is shot. The rear joint on my rear drive shaft burned out after a lapse of regular maintenance.

Is there a way to determine if one of the U Joints has gone bad? (other than taking it to the dealer)

thanks

I have the same thing happening, I've been meaning to get to the auto store to get a grease gun and some grease.

I also noticed that after doing some driving down a dirt road for about 20 miles, that I have a sqeek along with the clunking of the driveshaft. Could those two be related?
