CURRENT:
So I just joined the forum and I figured I'd start on my build thread to show the progress made thus far on my 4Runner.
This was my first vehicle. I had always wanted a 4Runner since I was a little kid and just when I thought it wasn't going to happen, BOOM, the perfect ride appeared and I jumped right on it.
This is the truck when I first bought it in March of 2012. I bought it for $5500 with 150K miles and a few minor dings and scratches (some minor rust too).
The first mod was buying a cheap bull bar for some toughness and to mount a couple of cheap navigator fog lights. As cheap as the bull bar was it has saved my bumper from 3 deer going 40+mph.
Next I got tired of the tacky amber colored turn signal lamps so I ordered a set of new euro style (clear) turn lamps. Turned out to be a great looking mod for the money.
After a couple months of debating what to do about a lift, I decided to go with the Toytec suspension lift. I got the old man emu coil lift without their shocks. 883's in the front for future hopes of getting a winch bumper and 891's in the rear to get rid of any sag and help when towing the boat or bike. I went cheap and put in billy HD's with the 883 coils and it's far from a soft ride. In the rear I went with some extended sky jacker nitro 8000's. And of course I put in the diff drop as well.
After I installed the lift I headed over to pick out tires. I wanted some 33's but the shop I went to wouldn't do it on the stock rims because of liability. BS right? So I went with 275/70/r16 BFG A/T's. I don't think I would've gone with any other tire. Highly recommended. I was satisfied with how it looked but I really wanted something a little wider, since these aren't too much different than stock.
Lift and tires being checked off the list, it was time to move on to small stuff that wasn't going to break the bank (all at once).
I began with cleaning up all of that northern rust underneath and sanded, primed, and coated the bottom for that nice new look and added protection. Painted the panhard bar and tow hooks yella to go with the billys.
Had my tranny rebuilt at 170K so I can be worry free on the beaches
Windows tinted along with a limo tint eyebrow
Tinted my side markers and turn signals. Thanks to foxrider56 for giving me his left over vht spray before the semester ended. (sorry for the sizing issue)
HID's from DDM are on the way and bulbs to do an interior LED conversion.
Just installed LED's for the gauge cluster, AC controls panel, ash tray, and glove box. My HID's came in a week late because of snow but they are insanely bright.
