Despite friends visiting for the long weekend i made a little progress on the platform

And i laid the drawer rails out to see the length

Looks like i’ll need to either find longer rails or just make the drawers a tad shorter and have a separate hinged compartment up toward the front of the cargo area.

Got the platform about done minus drawers

Was able to get the hi-lift on the left side with room for other stuff around it and my “oh shit kit” ammo can tool box on the right side.

Looking forward to getting the drawers built and in soon

finally got the other slider wire-wheeled and cut down.

Rather than trying to trim all the legs to be perfect and perpendicular to mate to the mounting plates, I decided to sleeve them.
The sleeves will be welded to the mounting plates, plates will be mocked up and welded in place, then i can slide the slider legs into the sleeves, assuring squareness and distance with the tight fit.

also started planning my swingout and decided to trim and lift my hitch first so it lays out between the frame then build off the rear face for the swingout.

The bigger pipe is just for alignment and will be removed once the extensions are tacked

Made some more progress this weekend, sliders are extended and capped!

Makeshift Alignment sleeve to tack the extensions on straight

Fat welds so i can smooth them out

Well thank ya, finally got them on yesterday!
Biggest goal was to keep them tucked under mostly and i think i got them right where i wanted.
Didnt end up using the plates i bought as i was going to have to hack em up in order to fit so i just notched the sleeves to fit instead and welded those straight onto the frame.
Going to go back and gusset them still but they are solid as hell as is.

Not a whole lot of work being done lately, just driving it but a few things coming soon.

I did order and swap rear shocks after my last outing though.
Was out with a buddy and realized we were running way late and he needed to get home pronto so we started booking it to get back to civilization. I usually drive pretty slow on said trail due to rocks and washboards but noticed at higher speeds how little my rear shocks were helping. Back end was all over the place and i could see the tire in my rearview bouncing like crazy. So i got home and ordered some OE LC rears that people seem to like and got them installed yesterday. Difference is TBD but they definitely cant be any worse than those crummy rough country shocks.

Finally got the seat heaters wired up correctly with relays and they are working great. Exciting being that it was 7 degrees when i got up this morning.

dont love these switches so i might see if i can figure out a way to mount them from behind so they arent so tall or just get new switches.


Also did the grey/blue wire mod for the locker and cleaned up some wiring under the dash while i was at it.

If you haven't used the knock outs in the dash try to find the seat heater switches and pigtail from a Limited.

I have one open but not the 2 together, honestly the placement isnt bad but i do like the idea of the factory switches at least.



got a new lens for my old canon and decided to test it out on the way to work.

Overall great build with lots of ingenuity. I like your dual LED pods in the factory cutouts. An idea i've been toying with for a long time and you're the first I've seen to actually do it. My dream stealth bumper would be a plate winch mount with a cool tube light bar mount that sticks just infront of the factory chrome bumper cover piece. Time will tell if I can actually make that idea look cool but I love the OEM+ and low-key design elements.

thanks! its a second-hand 24-105 L series, figured we live in Utah now and there is so much to photograph, i need to start upgrading.

The bumper was meant to be temporary but i havent got around to trying to build a plate bumper yet and this one really grew on me once i got the lights installed and the skid built below it. I like your idea a lot and i've been in the same boat about whether or not i can make something look legit, just gotta go for it sometimes

I think i mentioned this before but just now got it fixed. Someone torqued this filler plug to the moon and the PO tried to get it off unsuccessfully but did manage to mangle the head.

I was able to weld another nut to it and knock it off with 2 uggaduggas and all better.

Finally changed the rear diff fluid

And started wire wheeling the frame and rear end so i can POR15 soon.
Probably gonna be wire wheeling and sanding for a while tomorrow

Update: As expected this ended up taking much longer than expected but hopefully this is a one-time thing and i wont have to mess with it for a loooooong time. Spent the entire day wire-wheeling and finding more surface rust.

I don't know if they use salt down there, but if they do, you'll be very glad you did that come summer. I got some Eastwood internal rust encapsulator to try out and stop it rusting from the inside, and it comes in black so it doesn't ruin the work you've already done.

Thanks! they use a little salt and you do see some rust but nothing like the rust belt. I'm just trying to stay ahead of it as i know that you can prevent the rot completely if you stay ahead of it.

Thats a good idea, just watched the video on how to apply, that might just be my next step, thank you for the info.



Got the metal prep all wrapped up last night, that stuff etches the hell out of stuff.
Also, I'll say the recommended amount of degreaser and metal prep is a quart. I didnt use all of the degreaser but did run out of metal prep. So if anyone reading this is thinking of doing it, maybe order more metal prep.

The truck is back in the garage on a drop cloth and jack stands ready for paint when i get off today. boy am i ready to be done with this project :doh:

I took everyone's advice and covered myself head to toe, still somehow ended up with a dot of paint on my cheek



I am beyond ready for this project to be done.

painted for about 3 hours yesterday and when i circled back i realized the paint was thin on the edges of bare metal so i had to go over all of those again. It got pretty cold while i was out there so im thinking that may have had a hand in the paint not thickening up as much as i'd like and it sure as hell wasnt drying in a timely manner. Was planning to reassemble later last night but that was a pipe dream because i was still touching up edges at 11 and nothing was anywhere near dry by the time i called it.



if you're considering doing this, the final POR15 and prep amounts were:



• less than a quart of degreaser so one is fine. You dilute so it goes a long way.

• every bit of the quart of metal prep and could have used a little more. I would over buy next time considering it calls for you to keep the area wet for 20 minutes. If it hadn't been pretty cool outside i think i would have struggled there.

• 1.75 pints of POR15. that last 1/4 should be more than enough for touchups. I bought 3 and will be returning the last. The cans seem small but man do they get you far.

Oh and this was very helpful btw, highly recommended

I dont have to measure because this was something i had to work at getting where i wanted haha.
In the end I was 5.5" using the sleeve to push it off a touch but this is pretty short. I wanted them pretty close to the body although i know a lot of the time its better to have some clearance and use them as steps. I preferred the tucked look and feel so i kept them tight and almost touching the pinchweld on the upward angle. not as functional but i dont plan on bouncing off them regularly... yet

If i was doing it for someone else and knew they'd be hitting em a lot i'd go at least 6" to give them plenty of clearance.
